“I just tried to stay away from him,” Crosby said about past games against Murray, who played his entire career with the San Jose Sharks before Monday's trade. “I tried to dump it in the other corner where he wasn't.”

Its a Rossi article but its a quote from Crosby. Its really saying something when the best player in the world admits he tried to avoid Murray on the ice.

He does fill our "defenseman with an extremely large head" void left by Rob Scuderi.

Murray must be an absolute monster. I can't imagine what I would look like next to him.

Me with Thornton:

Ehhh...

Murray doesn't like 'Doug' because it sounds like 'Dog' in Swedish.

Granted, Doug doesn't sound like Dog in English. But I'm not going to be the one to test Murray on this.

Awesome Idea:

Starting right now, Kades works with Murray with the goal of achieving a target weight of 230 lbs of raw steel by training camp. By the end of next season just through the regular course he should be about 225 and can stabilize there. I would bet money his biggest problem with speed is not age or wear but weight. Knock 20 lbs off his frame and he'll still be a monster, only he'll be a faster monster.

Where would this magical 20 lbs be coming from?

People are saying he weighs 240-250 lbs... that's just too frickin heavy for a guy his height. He doesn't need to be that big to punish people, unless the reports are wrong (and he's already like 230) in which case my idea is less awesome. I'm not saying he's Dustin Penner or Byfuglien (read: fat) but 250 is HEAVY for a guy his height. If those reports are true. They may not be.

Would it not be awesome if he could lose 15 lbs or so, thus adding some speed and flexiblity (not to mention take some pressure off his knees at 30+), and sign here for 2-3 more so he can put the hurtin on the EC / help us make more Cup runs?

I believe in the power of Kadar. Norris consideration not out of the question for Murray next year. Instead of going to Russia this summer Kades can go to Sweden with Murray.

I definitely have to wonder why a guy as slow as him hasn't tried to drop his weight a little. He doesn't even look like a hockey player, he looks like one of those strongmen on ESPN2.

I wonder if the team will set up a "Beetle Toss for Charity" even this summer, where Murray lifts and throws a VW chassis over one of the bridges.

Unbelievable this cupcake has to use a shoulder-harness. #cheating #MurraySaysNo

Nice to see he can still throw some of those. Murray said in the interview on the Pens site that he's made more of an effort to let hits come to him so he doesn't get out of position as much. Maybe that's why there's supposedly been a few less of those big hits the past couple years. Although I've seen some blame it on a slow guy getting slower and not being able to get in position to deliver those blows. He should help bring a lot more toughness around the net regardless.

Do we really lack anywhere else significantly? It was one of our bigger holes. I hated the Morrow trade far more than this one because of the cost. This one I got. Extremely good chance it will be well worth the low second it will cost. That pick is guarenteed to be almost a third.

I agree on both counts. I am fine with the Murray trade on every level (need and cost). I hated the Morrow trade because I don't think Brenden Morrow is impactful enough at this stage of his career to be worth such a high end prospect. I do think he can contribute as a depth guy but that's not worth Joe Morrow. I would have passed on that deal.

This is kinda how I envision Murray's first practice with the Pens going.

Is there an interview similar to the Morrow one with Murray?
