I love the notion that if the Bruins trade for him they are then tied to keep him as a starter and if he's awful, he'll continue to be played.

Oh, and Chiarelli said Subban is going nowhere, explicitly.

Maybe, maybe not. He was quite good when he was initially traded to the Oilers though. I have heard rumblings about Whitney and Steve Smith not getting along, which could affect Whitney's role on the Oilers. Unhappy players don't play as well as happy ones, Whitney would love to play in Boston for sure.

Oilers aren't going to get very much for Whitney, but there is a small chance this could be a great move for Boston.

The Edmonton Oilers were heavily scouting the Bruins during their last 4-game road trip thru Canadian outposts. Definitely some smoke there

..that indicates a roster player coming back. Peverley has struggled this year, and has been a HS IIRC. Boston would move some salary, and open a forward position for next season (..maybe Iginla could fill that?).

Its not as far fetched as some of you are making it out to be.

He is still decent as a bottom pairing guy. Oil fans are sour on him because we have seen him at his best and hope he can be than he has been after multiple injuries and surgery. He is still good on the PP and the breakout, but not very fast at all. If he was making 2 mill he would likely get less heat in Edmonton.

He still has his uses and would do well on a deep team like Boston.

Peverley for Whitney is as far fetched as anyone is making it out to be.

that's the problem, this defense (in my opinion) is not deep at all.

Whitney for Pandolfo and a conditional 7th.

Hahaha. He is good friends with Penner too. Same personality too, both are can be cocky/arrogant and speak their minds, hate when people get on them (very defensive), but lazy on the ice.

curious to see what happens if the Oilers trade Hemsky and Whitney to the bruins-- regardless of what they get back--this place would implode

Why do they pass? Depends what they give up obviously (cant be that much), but having an extra vet on the backend is invaluable.

Kaberle part II. That seemed to work out OK for Boston.

Have no idea why Boston would want him. Whitney is brutal. Then again, Pittsburgh got a little harder to play ... Whitney makes Boston easier to play.

If this is true, this is just Boston in a panic seeing Pittsburgh make 2 moves in the last week. Bad trade. Especially if they traded a roster player.

Hemsky being involved takes this trade to a lot higher places than Peverly.

Except we'd be happy getting one of the three assets Kaberle returned

I think people fail to see how extremely low risk this trade would be for Boston, assuming the return to Edmonton is small.

Whitney for Boychuk or Ference?

Where do I *** sign.

@GlobeKPD18m
Whitney to Bruins from EDM? Johnny Boychuk is an EDM homeboy. Andrew Ference another local.

He has his short comings, but on the PP (say the second unit) he could help and he still makes a damn good 1st pass.

Wonder if a combo of Ales Hemsky and Ryan Whitney are on Bruins radar if things fall thru on Iginla talks? Both could be useful #BruinsTalk
