Hopefully final desicion comes soon, because no matter where they will play next season (EBEL or KHL) they need start to build roster for 13/14 season.

Assuming Milan and/or Medvescak do join the KHL, and assuming it does capture the imaginations of the public to an extent, you're going to need 10-15 years for it to truely have a sizeable and obvious impact on the sport in the country. Not sure if either projects are guaranteed to have such long durations in the KHL, since it seems year on year numerous new projects from abroad wish to participate and there is only so much room. Bigger teams from bigger nations knock at the door ....

I think different views on whether these adventures is a good idea from multiple angles has been discussed to death on here, and there is no need to re-start that debate, but i do wonder how long these projects may last if other better alternatives come along.

Wrong ! We're going to need 150 years knowing how much croatian hockey federation cares about "their" sport. In four years since EBEL came to Zagreb federation didn't do anything to improve our infrastructure by building some new rink in other city than Zagreb. And they can't have excuse like "people outside Zagreb don't know what hockey is", because at Medvescak's game in Arena (15.200) there were fans from all over Croatia.

I would like to believe that KHL would change that, but I doubt as long as current people leads our federation.

The question was assuming some intelligent management ran the infrastructure . As in, pretend for a second that the KHL does go onto work in these markets and strides are made in various ways.

Like what happens if Swedish/Finnish/German/Swiss teams want in, along with Polish, Norwegian etc projects and some fantasy idea in Asia.

The problem is that KHL will not help to raise kids. It is not job of KHL or KHL club but hockey federation of Russia/Latvia/Belarus/Slovakia/Croatia etc

I know, but I think that presence of KHL team in Croatia should stimulate our federation to improve our hockey with new rinks, to bring foregin coaches for kids etc. For now, EBEL presence didn't do that .

Russia is seen as a future market with big potential in Europe. No wonder that sponsors from both sides want to increase their market share.

And to CroHabitant:

It's a completely different world the KHL. Medvescak had by far the highest attendance in EBEL every year, the arenas and everything were at best second class all over this league. Now Croatian hockey gets media attention allover Europe. That is a big difference.

I hope enough kids want to play hockey when Medvescak plays KHL so that someone will finally invest money in hockey in Croatia.

That would require hockey to get any media attention (outside of the World Championships) in Europe in general.

In places with professional hockey teams at least hockey is a very big deal in most countries in Europe. In the metropolitan area that Cologne, Düsseldorf etc share (10 mio+ inhabitants) the newspapers are full with several hockey related articles every day.

Is there written that Medvescak needs to guarantee budget of 10 mil euro for next 3 seasons? I can not speak croatian, google is not ideal. Thx

Ono što je najspornije u cijeloj priči jesu financije, odnosno kako je Medveščak uspio nabaviti garancije da će skupiti po 10 milijuna eura za svaku od tri sezona, na koliko bi se potpisao ugovor.

Croatian club hopes to join KHL
On the 28th of March a delegation from Zagreb, Croatia attended a meeting in Moscow, at which they presented the Kontinental Hockey League leadership with an official application for HC Medvescak (“Bears” in English) to join the KHL in time to compete in the 2013-14 season. The KHL representatives informed their guests of the League’s policies regarding new clubs and the criteria which must be met by any club which intends to play in the KHL Championship.
For the new applicants to be eligible for next season, the club must submit all the necessary documentation before the official deadline of April 30th, while a team of specialists from the KHL is to visit Zagreb in the very near future to carry out an inspection of HC Medvescak’s infrastructure.

Well... I understand that the main arena will be Dom Sportova. That's not good... Russian people want to see Medvescak in KHL olny because of the Arena Zagreb. It would not be Arena-Zagreb and would haven't the enthusiasm for the Croatian club.

Full interview with Kochevrin:
http://fanat1k.ru/news-86750-kogo-zh...i-i-italii.php

So funny:
"Команда не первый год играет в канадском стиле, что мы увидели еще года полтора назад, когда на 50-летие со дня основания клуба в Загреб приезжало московское "Динамо". Хоккей достаточно бесхитростный, но задорный и агрессивный. От ставки на этот стиль "Медвешчак" отказываться не собирается. Мирасти или Яблонски могут не сомневаться: рабочее место в КХЛ им найдется (смеется). В любом случае легко из Загреба увезти очки не получится."

KHL want to see new Vityaz in Zagreb.
