Guys like Hemsky & Whitney are the epitome of guys who don't.

This would be a HUGE mistake by Boston.
Hemsky played pretty damn well for the oilers when they went to the cup finals in '06, 17pts in 24 games. Including two clutch goals in the third period against detroit to eliminate them in game 6.

The only thing about hemsky that wouldn't fit with boston, is that he doesn't play the physical game, which seems to be bostons MO. He doesn't seek out physical play/hits, but he definitely doesn't shy away from being hit if it means making a play.

I'd trade him for an ice cream sandwich at this point.

Let's be honest here it was Pronger that single handedly carried that team to the finals.

I can't think of a more wrong fit for the B's than players like Hemsky / Whitney... so as a penguins fan I am all for it!

Well, this is a scenario that generally proves a quality NHL GM Like Chiarelli knows more about running a NHL team than the drones on HF Boards. Whitney's had his ups and downs but has been solid lately and would be a quality vet for a playoff push on a contending team.

Why not? They traded for what's his face a few years ago at the DL...

Boston GM not known for mistakes, and that includes Hemsky. Media-types are attention junkies in need of fix. Float rumors, HF reacts. Mission accomplished.

He played so well in that playoff run he was supplanted by Radek Dvorak as the 1st line RW. I don't see where he helps them other then maybe having some chemistry with Krejci from playing together in Czech. It would definitely be a wild card for them but chances of getting burnt are pretty high. If this goes down I see Hemsky finishing his season in Boston General sporting a full body cast.

Whitney's been a lot better as of late so whatever team gets him is gonna get a better player than expected.. Also the way out forwards are supporting really makes all of our dmen look worse than they actually are.

UMMM ... no. Hemsky is a soft Euro that hasn't won much. You don't win titles with him. Morrow is a guy that you win titles with.

I hope you get Ales - a first and a prospect and have 5 million of worthless space tied up in your cap next year. Do it!

Oh, so Roloson had nothing to do with it? I'm pretty sure
Pronger was only one player during the playoffs.

Hemsky may be a lot of things, but soft isn't one of them.

How about fragile, an enigma; overpaid and a one-dimensional player? Better?

Hemsky is not what he used to be. But he is still better than Morrow and Murray. If anything he should have at least the same value as Morrow. What he lacks in grit, he makes up for with skill.

another example of eastern conference misunderstanding of a western conference team/player.

Yes, you are right Pronger was a huge force on that team and we would have not made it that far without him. But if you actually watched the playoffs in 2006 you would see that there were several players who contributed a lot. Hemsky was definitely one of them.

He is a solid RW. Maybe not a number 1 RW on a playoff team but definitely not an average #2 RW either. He's got skill, and contrary to popular belief of everyone who lives east of MST, he's not made of glass and fragile. He may not be incredibly consistent, but when he's on his game he's incredibly talented.

Now in regards to whitney, I'm not going to make any excuses for him. Guy could definitely turn it around in his home town, especially when he's got a lot of other support on D (eg. Chara) but the guy really can't skate that well any more and his value isnt that high.

Not even the worst on his own team. That distinction belongs to Corey Potter. Also, the Avalanche might have not 1, not 2, but 4 defenders worse than Whitney (O'Brien, O'Byrne, Zanon, Hunwick).
