18 points in his 'bounce-back season,' out-played by youngsters and his two-way game is fading. Signed another year at a healthy $5.

He's slick on the PP but doesn't do much else. Hasn't created near enough chances for a 5 million dollar winger that gets every chance to score.

I'd say they could get a 2nd round pick, maybe, but are better off flipping him for a less redundant forward.

Don't all teams listening to all calls on all players? Or do GM's hangup as soon as another GM asks if Sidney Crosby or Daniel Sedin is available?

If I was Shero and someone called me and asked if Crosby was available, I'd hang up.
Then I'd prank the other GM by sending multiple pizza deliveries to his house and then give his name to the Jehovah Witnesses as a potential convert.

That's unrealistic IMO.
The most realistic return would be picks or prospects. Whoever trades for Hemsky isn't going to trade a useful roster player, they are looking to add to their team not make a swap.

Also, Hemsky's caphit at $5 mil next season in a lowered cap world is sure to turn off a lot of GMs. The absolute BEST the Oilers can realistically hope for is a 1st rounder + decent prospect. Anything more would be a fleecing on Tambo's part.

It did seem like the main reason Oiler re-signed him last year was because no one wanted to trade for him so it's no surprise if they want to trade him.

Wish he could play on Tavares' wing.

Mark Streit + 4th and 2014 2nd
for
Hemsky + conditional 2nd (if Streit re-signs)

Just dreamin'

A 1st rounder+a decent prospect is absolute highway robbery at minimum. Be happy with a 1st, because you likely won't get that alone.

In a world, where 34 years old washed up veteran gets you top defensive prospect, i can't see, why Hemsky shouldn't have any value...

That washed up veteran is only signed this year though. Washed young wingers with big salaries next season end up on waivers in this world.

He does have some value, just not as much as some would hope. Top six forwards are hard to get, and he can still play. In a recent game where the Oil had only 19 shots, Hemsky had 5 of them.

That's the thing, Hemsky would have more value at near year's trade deadline.

Washed up vet doesn't have a huge 5 million price tag for next year. Morrow is a character guy that serves a purpose and you win titles with him. Still trying to figure out what purpose Ales Hemsky serves.

In a world where Jussi Jokinen pass through waivers because teams can't stand the $3M cap hit next year, a $5M cap hit next year isn't as easy to move as you'd think.

They'll have to trade some of his $ for a decent return imo with the cap going down regardless of him playing like a top 6 winger again.

good lord no....
Keep the glass man away from JT

we dont want anything weak and fragile anywhere near our budding Superstar

Id sooner trade JT to Toronto than to infect him with Glass Man syndrome

theres a reason Edmonton tries to trade him every year
and there is an equal and opposite law of science reaction, why he remains in Edmonton, so that Edmonton tries to trade him every year.

its like gravity

Oilers can eat 1-1.5 mill of his contract and he is worth it.

Shouldn't the Oilers be looking to get some help by players in there prime and veterans? Its not exactly like they are in the beginning of the rebuild anymore.

Address your teams needs. Stop trying to build a powerhouse at forward because its not working. Coming from a Leafs fan just do it properly unless you want years without playoffs because your team is full of holes.

Give them some experienced players for their top and bottom 6, give them some D (and yes, that means you will be paying up one of the 4-5 offensive studs), and get a goalie to help/be the start for Dubnyk for a bit.

And Hemsky has been injury-free ever since his shoulder surgery, which was over a year ago, so what's your point?

It just seems that Hemsky has no drive, he's been stuck in mediocrity for some time now, and by resigning with the Oilers showed that he's got a losers mentality. He was more comfortable losing in Edmonton, than taking his chances winning elsewhere.

I'm sure you can find a highlight goal on youtube for about every player in the league. How does this show anything?
