I thought re-signing with Edmonton showed he had loyalty and close ties to the organization, that he wanted to be part of turning things around in Edmonton. I give him props for that.

Has everyone forgotten that Edmonton could choose to retain some of this cap hit to maximize his value?

I could easily see the Oilers retaining the max they can on his cap and shipping him to a contender for a solid return. Getting a top6 winger at a cap discount for the playoffs and next year would be an attractive asset for sure.

Oilers management is laughable

They won't be able to trade him because of sheer incompetence

Well yeah, or maybe he was just i don't know, loyal? But i guess that works too, but then better be ready, because your team is probably trying to trade for one of the biggest losers in the whole NHL...

that makes alot of sense trade him for what ever he might be worth bur retain 50% of his cap as a way to share the risk of him being injured

that works!!!

Next year is the time to trade him. His 5m cap hit combined with a reduced cap means teams won't be offering much

Hemsky's one of the biggest enigmas around. Edmonton needs to deal him before all 29 other teams figure it out. If I'm Tambo I find a sucker and I get it done.

Lol @ the Price for Clowe. I wouldn't pay a first for him let alone add to it.

Well part of my point was you using a clip from 2006 to emphasize how good a player is in 2013.

that teams biggest problem with Hemsky is the fear that as soon as they trade for him, he'll injure himself. thereby being stuck with a $5M guy who sits in the pressbox every night.

if Edmonton holds half his salary that relieves alot of the acquiring teams concerns because then if hemsky gets hurt, both teams share the loss

that should make teams more willing to trade for hemsky

Oilers will defiantly be looking for size or NHL-ready prospects with size for Hemsky.

Do the Oilers really ever stop taking calls on Ales Hemsky?

If what Oiler fans say is true that the asking price is going to be high then once again he will waste away on the Oilers...Obviously what we heard last year about him being a great member of he Oil to mentor the young guys has worked great.

A late first rounder (something in the 20's) and a mid level prospect...No blue chip prosepct or young player with top 6 upside will be dealt for just Hemsky...Not sure what the Oilers are looking for but if I were them I would settle for a decent top 4 defensive dman with a mid round pick...This team needs to start adding hockey players who do the little things like crease clearing dman, dman who can control the corners in the d zone...I good high energy 3rd liner who can put in 40 points plus a pick.

He serves Hall , Yakupov , Eberle and the Nuge drinks and brings water to them during practices .

Ahh, I appreciate the clarification. I assumed you were being sarcastic, my bad.

Actually, I think injuries are a secondary concern with Hemsky. His shoulder seems to be holding up very well. The bigger concern is whether another team can get him to engage. He's a VERY good player when playing with passion, but in the last few years he seems to have picked up the habit of coasting through games.

Exactly. Morrow is twice the player Hemsky is even now.
