Oh god
How is anyone surprised by this?

Kesler is the new Salo.

Even when he does come back he won't ever be 100%.

This is why a hybrid 2/3 C is needed desperately.

Oh god
Place him on LTIR, keep him out until the playoffs. Add $20M of payroll at the deadline and run with a $90M team in the playoffs. This way you also ensure Kesler doesn't get hurt again before the playoffs.

I would call him the new Salo if he kept injuring the same part of his body again... and again... and again... and again... like Salo did.

I'm sure you can only rupture your testicle once......

Least I'd hope so.

Canucks didn't acquire Salo till he was 28.

Kesler's just getting started.....

Good thing that 'only' happened once then.

OT: Old rugby story about All Black, Buck Shelford. Seems to fit this conversation...

This is from his wiki

Quote:
Roughly 20 minutes into the match, he was caught at the bottom of a rather aggressive ruck, and an errant French boot found its way into Shelford's groin, somehow ripping his scrotum and leaving one testicle hanging free. He also lost four teeth in the process. Incredibly, after discovering the injury to his scrotum, he calmly asked the physio to stitch up the tear and returned to the field before a blow to his head left him concussed. He was substituted and watched the remainder of the game from the grandstand where he witnessed the All Blacks lose 163. To this day Shelford has no memory of the game

I want Kesler and Kassian back too, but that doesn't mean it's fine to have Weise injured.... It's not as if he isn't important either, just not in the same way as Kes/Kass.

When you start losing depth when you're already hurting for depth sucks. It isn't coincidence that the turning point in the 2011 SCF was the loss of Rome.

Looking back, I think the SCF was over before it even began.

For me, the final blow would've been Hamhuis. Without him I think we were done for. Rome was just salt in the mortal wound IMO.

But even before the final, we were basically the walking wounded. No team has ever won the Cup in 25 games rolling only 3 lines.

Kesler seemed to have plenty of speed and lateral mobility in the few games he played this year. Then, he sustained an injury totally unrelated to any previous injury and from which he is expected to recover fully. It's premature to say he'll never be an elite player again.

Honestly, I think this is a good situation for Kes.

I think he was rushing back in the first place.
Breaks tend to heal cleanly and there's no chance of increasing the chance of re-injury on a clean break.

The additional 4 weeks for his shoulder/wrist to heal is good for him IMO.
He got a taste of the NHL again and was reminded he can still produce even when he's fresh off the IR.

I'm hopeful he'll regain his beast mode once he's back.
