Really? Cause all ive heard from Dallas fans on Morrow is that he's useless whereas Hemsky has put up a decent season so far.

I guess it all depends on how biased you are.

Pointless. We all know Hemsky is talented. Nobody denies that. The knock on him is he's inconsistent and his care level isn't all that high. He's a very poor man's Alexei Kovalev/Kent Nilsson. Showing a couple highlights means nothing.

Here. Scott Pellerin.

I'm sure teams are itching to add an 18 point (in 31 games) one dimensional winger who has another year left @ 5m.

You guys are basing things on offensive talent alone. You really think that's what makes a hockey player? Brenden Morrow was on the Olympic roster in 2010 for a reason. Ales Hemsky wouldn't have made that team. Morrow's a warrior and always has been. He has more grit and heart in one finger than what Hemsky has in his whole body.

YakuBOT - I bet you're one of those oiler fans that says every year, "Okay THIS is the year that Hemsky breaks out." Keep dreaming. The guy's an enigma.

Plus I know a few things about his off ice habits. Not good. That's all I'm gonna say. Maybe if he dedicated himself a little more and became a professional like Morrow, he could live up to expectations and show that his talent isn't being wasted.

You had a fair point when you called him inconsistent. The whole doesn't care/ poor man's Kovalev is just crap, people have been finding reasons to knock Hemsky around here for years. First he was injury prone and now that he's been able to remain healthy suddenly he doesn't care or is over-paid or is over hyped.

The guys talent is undeniable and as you said he's inconsistent he has periods where he's by far the best player on the ice and is a dynamic player and then he has stretches where he's largely invisible.

Can't see any reason why a contender with some trouble scoring wouldn't want a guy like Hemsky sure he can be invisible at times but if he happens to catch fire for you he'd be an incredible asset in a playoff run.

We have one of those "warriors" and guys with "heart". Just ask HFOil how they feel about Ryan Smyth.

I've heard all about Hemsky's off-ice habits. He's been bringing it most nights on the ice, however. He goes to battle in the dirty areas time and time again even after coming back from injury for ****** Oilers teams. That's a real warrior. He's really the only veteran on forward (besides Gagner I guess) who has played well. Years of losing takes a toll. We're already beginning to see it with other players on the roster.

Maybe you should snap out of that dream you're in thinking that he's all talent and no heart.

Despite what his stats say I think he's been probably the best Oiler this year. In their 3-0 loss to the Blues, he looked like the only Oiler that gave a damn. He was driving to the net and setting up some good chances.

Dubie in net, McBain and Petry paired together, and a loose puck in front of our net. What could possibly go wrong?

Whether he gets traded or sticks with Edmonton I won't be surprised.

Would be nice to get an effective hard as nailed checking line player or a draft pick + very good pairing d-man.

I'm an oiler fan and this trade is bitter sweet. Would have been nice to see him in copper and blue for the playoffs one more time. But the heart drops too far every time the guy gets hit. I wonder if we could get oshie out of st Lou for him and whitney

Nobody is selling Hemsky to be the gritty leader. But it depends on what a team is looking for. A veteran who can speak in the dressing room, kill some minutes on the ice, and play a bit of gritty hockey? Or a skilled player who can actually create offense.

Hemsky would thrive offensively on a contending team. Put him on a line with a high scoring winger and you have what the Oilers only could have hoped for Hemsky in Edmonton for several years. He's not a leader. He's not a fighter. But he's not glass either. The guy is a skilled offensive threat that could be deadly in the playoffs.

I know the Oilers will be looking for overvalue for Hemsky, and they should...

But in terms of a fair deal, and with Lou's magic, could we pull this off?

NJ Receives:
-Hemsky
-(Any low picks/prospects)

EDM receives:
-2nd 2013 (NJ has this pick, correct?)
-Volchenkov
-Urbom

Edmonton receives a 2nd pick (that I believe NJ has?), a big-bodied dman in Volchenkov who is good on the PK, a nice young big D prospect in Urbom. The Devils have other young prospects in Merril, Fayne, Larsson, etc.

NJ receives the forward help they have been looking for, and probably an AHL player, since Lou loves to take in and make better, like always.

Even if NJ doesn't have the 2nd, does this trade still meet requirements, value wise?
