Jersey retirement dates

Do we know how many jerseys are set to be retired this year, and which dates yet?

I'd love to go to those games if I can, but if I have to buy my package before the games are announced, that might become hard.

They should get around to Larry Robinson one of these centuries. His number should have been retired 10 years ago.

To be fair and retire the jersey of every Hab who deserves it would leave us with too few numbers for the current team. I say retire a couple more then switch to "honouring" by hanging them but still allowing players to "borrow" the number. Players like Koivu or Roy deserve some recognition but they shouldn't be in the same class as richard or plante.

How does Roy not deserve to be there? Most wins of any goalie ever...

Would be cool if they retired Roy's jersey when we play vs the Avs.

One of the saddest things I ever read was Larry Robinson saying that at this point in his life, he doesn't care anymore if his jersey is retired because his wife, brother and basically his whole family isn't alive anymore to see it.

I prefer if jerseys are retired based on services to the team. The HHOF is for overall achievement. Two cups was great so I want to see him honoured but once he was traded his accomplishments mean nothing to the Habs. It's like when Bourque's jersey was retired by Colorado, it just wasn't right.

I'm not old enough to remember the 86 cup run, but I've seen enough videos about those playoffs to know Roy was huge back then, he was amazing in 93 and I don't think we would have won either cup without Roy in the net. The way he quit the habs left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, but he certainly deserves to be up there.

Roy would be one of those people I'd like to see honoured. Then again, it's not like anyone would be so bold to actually wear number 33 in bleu-blanc et rouge. Has there been anyone since Roy left who actually dared wear it?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a taboo number.

Honestly there should be no talk of any other jerseys being retired until #19 is in the rafters.

I have a feeling it's not the GM who decides what numbers get retired. This is up to Boivin and Gillett.

Say what you will about the Leafs, this is one thing they got right. In any franchise with as long a history as the original six, retiring numbers isn't practical for the number of players that deserve to be honoured.
