Hainsey played two seasons on the big club, and on his third season being called up to the NHL he got grabbed. Danis only played in the NHL last year so wouldn't that mean that this year he is safe?

Ferland for sure, but are Côté and Lapierre also in trouble? Guess we could lose Murray at the waiver draft.... anyway, Gainey will need to move, and I guess he will wait for a team to be in troubles between the pipes.... the only problem with that is that Biron is also waiting for this to happen, so are Anaheim and San Jose.

One place I see landing Aebisher is Atlanta who has health concern about Kari Lehtonen. Hartley knows Aebischer and knows what he can bring. So any thoughs?

Well, again for the sake of arguing into the unknown, the NHL definition seems to be that you are the age you'll be prior to the Entry Draft cutoff on September 15th. So, for example, Sidney Crosby would be "18" if his draft was held on the normal day in late June and he signed immediately, despite the fact that he was born in August and would technically have been 17. Similarly, Danis may have been 22 when he signed, but would have been 23 according to that scale. (See note 2 of Section 13.4 of the CBA on waiver exemptions). Of course, there is no explicit mention of how this applies to complete free agents who were never drafted, but the way it is written seems to imply that it applies to everybody. (I don't point this out to say that he is definitively classified as 22 or 23, rather to say it's not clear to me which he'd be).

... and I can see this being the saving grace either way. The press release when he signed stated that he signed a 2-year contract. Perhaps those games he played after signing weren't technically on an NHL SPC? If that turned out to be the case, then he'd only have 2 years marked against him, in which case he's safe regardless of whether he's counted as 22 or 23.
Well, basically there are 4 permutations here: 22 and 3 years played. 22 and 2 years played. 23 and 3 years played. 23 and 2 years played. Only one of those cases (23 and 3 years played) results in him being exposed. So I figure there's a 75% chance he's safe.
(And hey that also means there's a 25% chance he's exempt next year too under the 22-2 scenario! ).
