People like Ward can be replaced incredibly easily, I don't think TSN will axe him but if he worked for ESPN you'd have another former player sitting in his chair the very next night.

Scott Walker should punch him on-air and then take his job.

According to McKenzie this morning it was done until Iggy nixed it, i guess the broken telephone affect ruined Wards credibility

No way. This guy needs to get razzed way more for making this thread

Remember when CNN stated Osama Bin Laden was holding a weapon when he was shot, but we later found out that wasn't true. How dare CNN continue to televise news.

Ward messed up, and he'll have to now slowly build back 'insider' credibility.

I would imagine that TSN will have a major internal review of what happened. The sources will be dissected among the braintrust there and they'll figure out if it merited the Ward call or if he got trigger-happy.

I have no doubt that the Boston-Calgary trade was close to being done. But, at the end of the day, everyone knew that Jarome had to give the final OK with his NMC. Without confirmation from his camp, Ward should not have issued such a definitive tweet.

CBC is still great. But man have they ever hurt themselves with PJ Stock. Healy's a little annoying but Stock is bottom of the barrel. It seems like the CBC is in desperate search of Cherry's replacement and they're looking for clowns.

They should just realize that Cherry's one of a kind and go with Kelly Hrudey's 'behind the mask' as the replacement. No he's not as crazy as Cherry but he's a superb analyst and he'd do a great job. Instead they go after Stock... just brutal.

Maclean, Friedman, Hrudey... that's a great group. And that's what they should focus on. Stop going after the clowns...

The credibility and reliability will take a huge hit. People may not be talking regularly about it in a week, but everytime he talks about trades, this will be used against him by some. In short, he'll never totally live this down.

I expect he'll get plenty of ribbing if he does any sort of trade deadline day coverage.

TSN is the best in the biz. No other network in the world can even compete with how well TSN covers hockey. This thread is such a farce that you should feel ashamed. Go watch SNET for 30 minutes and it will be abudantly clear how idiotic your claim sounds.

It's always better to get a story right rather than get it out first. Embarrassment is the inevitable consequence.

McKenzie et al. were running damage control for the TSN brand pretty heavily on twitter. Friedman commiserating as well.

Ward will move on and we'll all get over it soon enough.

Ward loses credibility, but the other organizations also didn't bother to independently verify the info before they ran with it.

Besides in this day and age are insiders really even needed on TV? everything is broken long before ever on air on Twitter.

TSN also has without a doubt the worst play by play teams in the business.. Gord Miller has constantly been bottom of the barrel and Cuthbert has lost a big step since his CBC days...still good at CFL though
You clearly don't reside in the GTA. Anyone who says that Joe Bowen/Greg Millen is better than Gordy Miller Ray Ferraaro is talking some serious smack. Go home op, you're drunk.

Totaly agree! Garry Galley is good also but other than that TSN is a superior product by far. Actually I don't watch HNIC much anymore....just got tired of their routine.

It seems like everything was a done deal to Boston and Iggy just pulled a fast one on everyone wanting to go to Pitts. He'll lose some credibility but people will forget. Heaven forbid anyone makes a mistake at work...

I mean for years the product has just been deteriorating to the point where it is almost getting unwatchable...

Now their coverage really seems to be at an all time low... they have the worst on air crew in probably any sports production in North America with guys like James Duthie, Dave Hodge and Craig Button and the constant gimmicks are just a joke.

I know they are a Canadian network so it is to be expected a little bit..but the favoritism to Canadian players is just so silly...Jonathan Toews the 3rd best player in the league? lol... Though I can't wait to tune in next week for their 30 min panel on Team Canada 2018.

It's honestly become so bad I think Sportsnet should be get the national rights again.. they've learned after the whole boston pizza party thing.
Lose broadcast rights - over something like this?

Damn some of these posters are going off on odd tangents...

McKenzie is one of the most respected analyst in the business. Claiming also TSN does not give any respect to players outside of Canada is ridiculous gibberish

Some people are insane.

Short of McKenzie, Lebrun, and Dreger, Ward is incredibly reliable. He isn't Eklund or some beat writer. Ward knew what he was doing. Even McKenzie agreed that there were highups in the Boston organization that thought Iginla was a Bruin.

Someone probably told Ward that it was a done deal. Someone really high up in the Boston organization because, for all intents and purposes, it was done. Things change in a 5 minute phone call. The Boston higher up probably didn't know that Iginla got to pick the team he went too either.

Does it ruin his credibility? Not in my eyes because I didn't hold him over some of the big guys like the McKenzies, LeBruns but it's mindboggling that people want him fired, for TSN to lose broadcasting rights, or sentenced to prison, over a bad call. If this was the case, I'd hate to see what you think of everyone else.

It's not on Wardo. The onus is on who gave Wardo the information from within the Bruins organisation. The person within probably had provided him with correct information repeatedly in the past. This informant told Wardo the deal was done. Wardo trusts his source, has no reason to question it, and reports it. Wardo deserves a pass

Let me ask some of you chastising Ward this question:

What do you judge his credibility on? The one incident where he made a mistake, albeit a big one; or the dozens of other times when he's been the first one to break something? He was the first one to confirm that the lockout was over, IIRC. I've also never seen him get anything wrong like this, before.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. He's still reliable and a legitimate source. People make mistakes. Live and learn.

Ward should be razzed for a bit but then let it go.

This is the age of twitter journalism and getting it "first" is all that matters.

You can also razz any number of media outlets that were reporting it as fact.

Throw in the fact they knew the specifics of the deal and boy it seemed legit.

They just need to be more careful with their qualifiers when they announce something.
