Ward has a lot of egg on his face, that's for sure. I was floored when it turned out to be Pittsburgh; ESPN had credited Ward with the original story.

Outside of hockey, a comparable situation of late might be what happened at Sandy Hook.

He hasn't lost any credibility in my eyes. This was a mess from the start but he was told by several people it was a done deal and it seems like Iggy changed his mind.

Aaron Ward gets one wrong and OMG

Eklund gets everyone wrong, and still is deemed credible here.

Go figure

I don't know if it's been said but Calgary and Boston had agreed to a deal, but it was Iginla who wanted to go to Pitt and that's what ended up happening. As for Ward, I don't care about him and his credibility, he's a great guy on and off the ice and he just go tit wrong, but I don't think it was something he could have prevented. Pulled the trigger too quick on the tweet thats all.

Is it possible for any media outlet to lose credibility in your eyes?

Jeez, Iginla was probably the most important person in the room, and they reported without knowing his viewpoint.

****** journalism.

You literally point out how it could be prevented in your next sentence, not pulling the trigger too quick.

True, I did. But I think that the word from Calgary was a little misguided in the sense that the GM said OK to the deal that was offered but Iginla did not. So, Ward probably heard a deal had been agreed upon and tweeted it out. Of course this is speculation, but in the world of reporting especially in sports, it's a feeding frenzy for who gets to report breaking news first.

No, without due criticism, the viewership comprised of people like us will continue the feeding frenzy that leads to shoddy reporting.

About a month ago Kypreos stated Gretzky was a lock to be the next President of the Leafs. Still waiting on that one there...

By a time trade info is passed on it's outdated. Boston was probably about to get him and Pitt outbidded them

Do you really need this explained to you?

It's because Ward got one wrong that it's such a big deal. Typically you don't expect those affiliated with extremely credible media outlets like TSN to get something so big so wrong (granted it wasn't entirely his fault as the deal seemed to be done in principle).

Everybody expects Eklund to get everything wrong, so it's not news when he does.

Kinda feel bad for him, I think he got some information, just like all the other inside, and maybe made a mistake and jumped the gun to confirm. Guy is just starting out in this line of work, and I believe he was the first on the Semin extension. Mistake on his part, but nothing more, all the top guys probably have made similar mistakes, I remember kypreos said that Suter signing in Det was a done deal, and he went to the Wild.

I gave big credit to Renaud Lavoie from RDS, IMO he proved he is up there with all those big name guys in terms of creditability. He was the only one I saw saying that the deal wasn't done after Ward and many others said it was a done deal with Boston.

You want to revoke TSN's broadcasting rights in favor of who? The network that had Eklund as an "insider" one trade deadline, or the network that employs PJ Stock?

It's such a competitive business , with trade deadline rolling around and everyone wants to be the guy to make the breaking trade news. Kind of reminds me of the Canadian national elections where every news outlet wants to be the first to declare the victory.

Ward made a mistake. feel bad for him but it happens to the best of us. Now if he does it a 2nd or 3rd time, then it's a different story.

People actually care about this? This is a non-story.

He could do this a 1000 more times and nobody should care. The truth of a trade will always come out soon.

What do you mean "lose broadcasting rights." That isn't a thing. Who is going to take them away? I don't know what you Canadians have in your Constitution, but I'm assuming there is something about free speech equivalent to the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment.

Its like ebay someone outbid you the last second or had a higher bid already in place.... or your bid didnt go thru... so the bruins lost on an old jersey, they get to keep some new ones now, wait they might re list it again

This is why I only get my hockey news from that French guy Renaud at RDS. He's always on his game.

Honestly, TSN is 99% of the time accurate when it comes to breaking trades. I realize this is a big trade to report incorrectly but I think we can give them a pass.
