Everyones knew this.

People have been saying this for at least 2/3 years now. They saw the writing on the wall. The Flames organization did not. This is EXACTLY what happened in Toronto 6-7 years ago. Thought adding 1 or 2 more veterans (i.e. Jason Blake or Mike Cammalleri/Jiri Hudler, etc) would help them contend.

If I were a Flames fan, I'd honestly sit back and come to grips with the fact it is going to be at LEAST 4-5 years before they even start talking playoffs. One or two top picks are nice but as the Oilers/Leafs/Blue Jackets/Isles/Panthers have shown, it can take YEARS before you're a "good" team again (if ever!).

One thing this trade has really brought to light for me this morning is the NTC and NMC factor in the Flames' rebuild. Some have talked about it before but now we're seeing it played out in 3D. Those things (Both real and, in the case of Kipper, rumoured and implied) is really going to reduce the amount of return the Flames are going to receive and could really hold up a much needed rebuild. It's one thing to say you're going to clean house but it's another to actually talk people into moving and freeing up space for renewal.

It's going to be interesting here in Calgary for the next little while.

One additional thought about the Iggy trade: I'm really surprised there wasn't a conditional pick (Depending on whether or not Iggy signs an extension) negotiated. I thought that would have been an important piece too.

As much as I dislike the Pens, I will be rooting for them now because Iginla deserves a cup, my favorite non Blue player. This is of course after my Blues blow it and bow out early in the playoffs....as is tradition.

Iginla has yet to put on a Pens jersey and he already got an assist (to ditch boston and make this deal happen)

Nice!

It's going to be hard because Letang and Malkin need new contracts. But if he was willing to accept a 1 or 2 year deal at a semi-reasonable cap hit I could see him staying. It's all going to depend on if he likes it in Pittsburgh and is willing to accept a little less to stay.

Yes, they can and they will. Unless the pens win the cup...then i think he's going back to Calgary.

Playing the Pens just got more difficult in NHL 13. Argh.

False. Letang and Geno's raises will be paid for with our cheap blue line in the future. Despres is here to stay. Martin will likely be gone if not Orpik.

After next season, the cap will be up near 70 anyway. Perfectly doable.

Any other team and I'd put my money on him going back to CGY. Playing with Crosby is another story. Playing with Sid and the rest of PITT is like winning the lotto for a player like Iginla. I can see him sticking around.

On the bright side as long as Iginla is a Pen I'll be cheering for the team.

I'm still waiting to see why Boston was floating these rumors, but I haven't seen anything written about it yet.

One of the most shocking things I ever saw in terms of hockey rumors/trades.

When guys like Dreger and Bmac were convinced he was about to be traded to Boston, something odd was definitely going on....

The cap problems start after next year. I have a hard time believing Iginla is going to take a one year deal at 5 million.

Iginla's going to sign there long-term. He's the winger Crosby's always wanted. You thought Crosby was good before? Look out now.

Iginla royally ****ed over his franchise and the GM with his dick move.

Wants to take the easy way to the Cup, where he is simply a passenger? Alright, I hope karma never let's him win a Cup, ever.

This trade is putrid for Calgary, lol.

It sounds like there was a huge coincidence with certain players in both organizations being benched on the same night. From what I could see late in the game people put 2 and 2 together and came up with 16.

Hard decisions need made for sure, and I'm positive some won't be on that roster when it matters then.

The dude spent the prime of his career carrying the Flames... he's earned the right to play on a contender and on a line with Crosby

Someone is clearly jealous/hurt.

We can sign him easily if he takes $5m or less.
