He got quite many points in the past because he got a lot of playing time in a very bad team. He should not be paid more than 1.2-1.5M and maximum 2 years. But the best solution is to trade him now since we can get something in return and get real power forward through the trade or off season UFA signing.

I think that some veterans (Whitney, Belanger) should be moved in the sake of keeping players accountable. Our veterans just don't get the job done.
He's got 3rd line minutes here in Edmonton, heck in 2010-11 Giroux, Reddox, Omark, PRV Cogliano, VV, and Hartsi were given more minutes per game then Jones. He's a 2mil player at the min is this league.

Wonder if all the time off is putting Jones a step behind this season

In order for him to cement his role in the bottom six, he needs to really improve his defensive awareness.
I disagree, I think he does just fine defensively. He also is one of their best players on the PK. I think he adds so much to the team on the ice and even more off. He gives it every game. He has heart and that goes a long way.

I think it'll be a few more games till he really gets comfortable battling on the boards and in the corners.

He's coming back after a career threatning injury. He's also learning how to play with a visor. Not concerned at the moment.

Yeah he fits what we need. Keep him. Jones is one of the few who plays hard every game and knows his role. He is part of the solution to me.

Agreed. It's hard to step in part way, and be back to normal. The plus is it means that it ups our bargaining power a bit since he's having an "off" year

He's meh... Has a bit of a nose for the net but is constantly cheating defensively. Can skate a bit but doesn't play physical enough. Really doesn't bring it on a consistent basis. Not a particularly smart player either. Why he is on the pk is beyond me. He is whatever, if they keep him around Smutty needs to definately go. Don't like the idea of paying a fourth liner much more then a mil a season. Would be all for packaging a combination on him Hartikainen and N Schultz for a decent defenceman or top nine left winger.

Does Jones have any value left

It seems to me that Hartikainen is as good player as Jones who is 14 gp 1+1 -3
Hartikainen is stronger bigger and has more potential. I hope that Jones will be traded so we can call up Hartikainen who does not need any more seasoning in the minors.

They will resign Jones to another extension for a reasonable amount. Players like Jones will always be a good value to the Oiler organization .

Jones is another small piece of the puzzle. His scoring in his time here has been a nice surprise but he is not physical to any great extent.

I've never seen a player do so much to accomplish so little as Ryan Jones.

Only if you also think Linus Omark would be a significant upgrade on this lineup, then all it makes alot more sense.

Two years, $3.5M total seems about right.

Still don't know if he wants to come back. An eye is a pretty serious injury.

We aren't winning a cup if Jones is on our 3rd line.

For sure, we aren't, he is at best a 4th liner.

Hey...whatever happened to the Omark thread? Is he still destroying the NLA playoffs with his mighty apples? I mean, he doesn't have the scoring touch of, say, a Ryan Jones, but

There is no way Jones is signed for over a million.
If he is, its a blown contract.
