would u like these signings?

one Def for 1 year ------>1 million or less.

Sean Hill
Dick Tarnstrom
Brian Leetch
Jason Woolley (2 way deal)
Ivan Majesky (2 way deal)

*I know we have no spots left and close to salary cap, but am I the only one who would love to see Trevor Linden in a Habs jersey again?

Big vet, right handed shot....would come cheap to.

Now that O'Byrne is signed, I think maybe it's less feasible to add another vet on a 2-way deal. Maybe. Stockpiling legit NHL assets couldn't hurt, though, if Leetch, Tarnstrom, or Hill were willing to sign for less than $1M, and wouldn't mind sitting in the pressbox many nights if they couldn't outplay anybody in the top-6, well, sooner or later those assets might be convertible into a 4th round draft pick at the trade deadline or something. I wouldn't be completely against that. But it does seem extremely unlikely, and largely unnecessary.

I thought about Leetch. He's not the player he used to be, but he is still a very talented offensive D who would have look nice in our depth chart. He certainly could have been a nice addition on our second PP wave. I know he wants to stay in the East, so again that's a plus. The problem is that we already have a lot of money commited in our D (specially on the bottom pairing), and I think we would have to overpay to bring him to Canada.

Chemistry is a fragile thing. I don't like trigger happy GMs that keep moving assets around, trade and sign left and right and overstock on players they don't need. It can create malcontents within the team, especially with our D as they appear to be a really tight group.

I prefer Bob's approach, move the pieces of the puzzle one at a time, very carefully, and only remove those that do not fit, as opposed to replacing the ones that fit by others that might fit.

That's why I think Gainey will not be getting Dumont or any other filler. We have a complete roster, it's done, unless an amazing opportunity comes around, we will not be doing anything else to alter it. And none of the current available UFAs are pieces worth reshaping the team for.

That's the way I feel too. I think that it's important to at least give the younger players the impression that they can make the team if they have the work ethic and talent. Although I might come to a different conclusion if Streit's health is a question mark, in addition to Bouillon's, and if one more defenceman gets hurt in the pre-season, especially if it were Markov. But it would have to be for a tangible improvement over what the Habs have on the farm.

No to all of those. Linden didn't do all that much his first time around why in God's name would we want him around a second time?

Yep, Wooley and probably Majesky too but Woolley first. Its a 2way contract so he can be our best dman at Hamilton and if cheap that just perfect.. solid #7 dman also and since Bouillon injured

Rumor is he's asking for around 3$ million, or going back to Europe.

Bull Eyes

At this time of the year it's easy to get tempted by all the pretty UFA's and what not but you can't buy chemistry. That's gold. In the playoff it can make or break your team. Look at the 02 and 04 victories over the B's. I attribute alot of those to team chemistry.

cote is our best defenceman in hamilton , even if wooley were there . if injuries become an issue he will get the first call-up . to answer the question , we don't need any of those guys now so why bother ?
