Lost it during the lockout and his wife back in MTL probably found it in a box and shipped it to him. Cole ran to the UPS store during practice.

I guess this is more General Stars than Trade Deadline ....

I asked Heika in chat about Nystrom's contract talks. He seemed to indicate that they are going well, and that if and when he does sign, it won't be as much as Adam Burish.

Hey Stars fans,

I have a question. How good is Fiddler? Is he good enough to be a 3rd line center

IMO no. He was Dallas' 3rd line center last season, and he was not nearly as effective as he is this year centering the 4th line. He still plays quite a bit because he's typically Dallas' best faceoff guy on any given night, and he's a very effective PKer this year.

They've scaled his total minutes back about 2 minutes, and increased his PK time a bit. He's a much better player now IMO.

2 years 1.5 per. Maybe 3 years.

That's less than Burish right?

With the right wingers Fiddler is a 3rd liner.. Needs some quick players with him..

Burish is 4 years at $1.85 million.

He didn't specify if both term and salary would be less, but I imagine you nailed it.

I'd say 3 years and $1.5 million based on Heika's current statement. Previously, I assumed it would be a bit higher like $1.95.

He has some quality linemates last year. I just don't know if I agree that even better linemates would make him a 3rd line center on a contender.

Ideally, a good team IMO is playing him out of the 4th line role.

He's on the low side of 3c, honestly, which means he's probably better suited for 4th line duty with some high octane kids who are easing their way into the NHL. His TOI has fallen off a bit over the years, too. He's just another Manny Malhotra or a prime Marty Reasoner.

I think he could have a slightly better statline if the overall team wasn't mediocre with a mediocre coach.

I'm okay with 3 years 1.5 mil per for Nystrom. We have plenty of options for bottom 6 players that could replace him, but I like having Nystrom on the team.

Nystrom is a great character for this team and is one of the harder workers. I could see a 2-3 year deal at 2 million per. God...I just realized how over-payed professional players are.

2 is too high for what he does as a 4th liner

Fiddler is an above-average 4th line center but a below-average 3rd line center.

Meh, there are guys who contribute in big ways to wins who make much less than 1 million, i.e. out of nowhere punt returners with after burners. Those guys are usually used up and spit out in a year or two without really cashing in for what they put their bodies through. The league you're looking for is the NBA, where a guy who gets a DNP may be paid 7-10 million, and this isn't a rarity.

He was the 3rd line center last year. It worked good at the start of the season, not so much at the end of the season. As such he should really be kept as a 4th line center.

Yesterday's practice report is a short piece about Antione Roussel.

IMO, Nystrom > Morrow this season. I'll be glad to see him back.

Stars lines this morning: Nystrom-Benn-Jagr; Whitney-Roy-Eriksson; Smith-Eakin-Cole; Petersen-Roussel-Vincour
Garbutt is skating. The last I heard about him was he was seeing a hand specialist on Friday. I expect they'll have something to say about his progress after practice today.

I know he's there because of injuries but
