Just finished "Gates of Fire" by Steven Pressfield, incredible.

This book is Gates on the Commandant of the Marine Corps' Reading list. It is taught at West Point and Annapolis and at the Marine Corps Basic School at Quantico at Virginia Military Institute and at Brophy College Preparatory.

As someone who has finished the first 3 and is saving the 4th for the beach this summer, that's not what I wanted hear.

I'm not as enamored with those books as some, but I'll live. Lord knows there's plenty of other books out there to keep me busy.

4 and 5 were supposed to be one book originally, but it would have been too long so GRRM broke it up.

I think 5 has been generally underrated, and is much better than 4.

The 4th book is definitely the weakest because the reality is that books 4 and 5 are really just one book. I think it was mainly a let down coming from a storm of swords as all the major arcs are not in 4 and it was a long wait. I think knowing that in hindsight somehow would have lessened the disappointment. Still some interesting stuff with some of the minor characters. I probably should go back and re-read 4 and 5 at some point. Would be cool if they just made a mega tome of those two with all the chapters organized as they should be.

I'll live. As I said, I don't think those books are as awesome as most do, and apparently I've read the good ones.

My "to read" pile at home is monstrous, like 20 some books.

Yeah I have a big pile as well. I used to read all the time and now barely. Too much TV.

I just don't watch much tv. I read more than a book a week. I'm all over the place, but lots of history, science, and Noir-type mysteries, with a solid dash of sports of course.

Didn't here anything about Sky... the Examiner is shutting down its daily operation, though, so I think McNally will be out when that happens.

Would anyone ever have predicted that Dennis Rodman would have a hand in starting a war?

Those joint exercises two weeks ago helped the situation about as much as Ted trying to sell Kuz as a 2C in the Rib Media negotiation game.

It's just the section of the Examiner that includes sports, I thought. I thought he was getting Corey-d

It's turning into a weekend only thing, which yeah I guess means no sports (among many other things).

Ok, I was unclear on the full extent of the changes. It's a shame he loses his spot when there are far, far worse out there.

I take it you never saw this then: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/foo...prognosis.html

I can't find a video because they didn't even show replays of it because it was so bad.

Just gruesome. Reminded me of Theismann for sure but also Napoleon McCallum. Monday Night Football was not kind to those two players.

Best wishes to Kevin Ware for a speedy and effective recovery.

About the episode of Vikings that just aired: The Earl is looking for Ragnar, and he doesn't check the one obvious hiding spot?

Yes.. Floki seems to be secluded from that community.

I think that episode was kinda off too. It's too easy for vikings to look for someone if they wanted to. All they had to do when he jumped from the hill was follow the boat.

That's the exact opposite reaction that I've seen. I haven't found anyone before you that was satisfied with it.

I thought it was way too anti-climactic, and poorly thought out. Probably one of the big reasons the show runner for season 3 was canned.

Spoil:
No resolution with the Governor, and Rick's group took on 20-30 people with no way to feed them.
