This Ranger team is basically working with one forward line. Thats ****ing atrocious.

1/4 lines. Id much rather use a 40 goal scorer to get more offense back in the form of forwards.
In regards to the first paragraph, I respectfully disagree. You can change the horses all you want, but if the system in place doesn't promote goal scoring, the team won't score goals. As currently constructed, Crosby and Malkin would struggle to be point per game players on this team.

The talent is there. Perhaps I'm hoping too much for guys like Fasth and Lindberg to make impacts as soon as next season, but offensive talent is hardly a problem on this team. Harnessing said talent is the problem, and that's on the coaching.

A right handed puck mover that can play more than 15 minutes a night that is serviceable in their own end is the team's biggest hole. I like Stralman, but he's not the solution. Hate him all you want, but the last player we had like that was Rozsival.

Definitely listen to that if you have 16 minutes - very interesting.
I agree, definitely worth listening to if you have the time.... I thought it was very interesting to hear Torts talk about how the organization didn't realize they would miss the middle of the lineup as much as they have from last year, but still make the Nash trade 10/10 times because its easier to fix the middle of your lineup than to get a game-breaker..... He definitely seemed more laid back than in his post game interviews

Why? You can't tell me they would rack up as many points dumping and chasing.

At the risk of this turning into a Tortorella thread, I'd expect Boston to make some sort of panic move after losing out on Iginla, even though they really shouldn't. They have one of the most complete teams in the league.

I find it hilarious that you and others think that Tortorella's system on offense is to dump and chase every time they head down ice, and to specifically limit the goal scoring.

Really? So I suppose when the Rangers have a 3 on 2, putting it into the corner instead of leaving it for a trailer for a good shot is good hockey strategy that people playing the game for their entire lives would do. Not going to say much else, this is the wrong thread for it

Seriously.

No offense man, but that's crazy talk. Rick Nash is a PPG player under this "system", and he's not even a regular PPG guy.

The problem isn't the "dump and chase". It's the putrid transition game and the team's apparent refusal to go the slot when on the cycle.

Watch game film from early this season and you'll see what I mean. I'm on my phone so I can't cite specific examples

So, you think blowing 3 on 2s is a conscious part of the team's strategy? Seems more realistic to me that the players made some mistakes and let a good opportunity get wasted.

Could be, it just seems like we're the only team that makes these kinds of mistakes. Lack of execution is one thing, but not getting shots on goal when there should be a chance worries me, and makes me think that more than low hockey IQ is at play

Look, it's obvious that the players on the team aren't able to exercise their full creativity. I have no problem with playing dump and chase, counter attack style against some teams, but when we're obviously more talented than the opposition, let the talent and creativity flow. It's why we've struggled against Buffalo and Florida. I like Torts, but his refusal to adjust has me frustrated.

It's funny how things come full-circle. I remember rolling my eyes at the arguments that all this team needed was John Tortorella to become an offensive powerhouse. That was when the team's top wingers were Markus Naslund, Nigel Dawes, Nik Zherdev and Ryan Callahan and their PP pointman was Wade Redden. Tom Renney is due an apology.

When the Rangers were winning, fans from 29 teams were complaining about our system.

Now we are.

Definitely, I got a kick out of the Renney hate way back when, a change was due regardless

Right.

Well sometimes I think 85% of this board needs to become a bit more familiar with the line change, or recognize a player having no play in the neutral zone.

Bravo. Good post.

I dont know why its so difficult to just admit that:

1. certain players are just sucking
2. the roster assembly is a joke

Outcoached yet again. Goodbye. Take Boyle with you. Drop Miller off in Hartford on the way too.
