Ouch. But you're right, just predictions. It wouldn't make them any more professional if Iginla did crack 100 points last season, just like it doesn't make them any less professional that he didn't. It's a crapshoot that most of us here could probably make a living at as well if given the chance

Why they would be better this year?

October 05 vs October 06
You add (Backstrom will play in Sweden this year)

Alexander Semin
Richard Zednik

You remove

Brendan Witt
Jeff Halpern

Olaf Kolzig is 1 year older

So the same crappy defense, the same anemic attack ( and the goaltender is near retirement. Ovechkin can hardly do better than last year.

So Basically this team is not the Washington Capitals. This is the Semin and Ovechkin of Washington.

Will Eero Somervuori be a top Calder candidate this season too?

I think most of us are better for predictions than the guys writting in THN. However, its a very long shot to predict an entire season. I predict there will be a trade in early Fall (Danis won't clear the waivers) and I also predict Ryder won't play more than 80 games.

The last two years (according to their predictions) we were supposed to finish 14th and 13th if I remember correctly.

Both assumptions arent too far fetched in my eyes actually.

a 9th spot team with 97 points is, however. That's pushing it a bit.

So is having Tampa Bay at #5. Seriously, am I missing something there? They added Denis, not Luongo...

Has The Hockey News ever predicted that we will make the playoffs? Ever? I mean seriously, it's just hilarious now. 9th to them will probably be 4th or 5th in reality.

Points seem about right but I think(hope) we'll finish higher up in the standings(6th I'm thinking). They're overating Tampa and Atlanta.

and the Sabres and carolina. Carolina lost some key contributers without adding a significant body to replace them. They were able to stay healthy last year, they will be lucky if it happens again.

Does anyone know when the Forecaster will be available? It seems it's available on the Score website, but with a 10$ shipping fee, i'd like to go buy it myself... Is it on stands?

When did it come out? Are any other fantasy pool mags out yet? I remember McKeen's coming out in mid-August a couple years back.

So, with a 44-29-9 record (97 points), we finish 9th ??

And add to this number the points for OTL!!

Well, if we don't make the playoff with 97+ pts, i don't think that a lot a tems will
Thats funny...

remember, the thrashers played a fair chunk of the season with their #2, #3, and even #4 goalies.

And they still came close to making the post season.

With a young stud like Kari lehtonen healthy and a little more seasoned, its not far fetched at all to think that the thrashers will make the post season.

Sure, they lost savard, but really, I dont think its a loss thats going to severely hurt the thrashers. Kovalchuk and hossa will still put up their points and they can find someone else to ride shotgun with them.

a couple pretty good teams always miss the playoffs these days and montreal might be one of them.

I thought the rangers overacheived last season and I will be very interested to see how they come out. Jagr's attitude can change from season to season. Lundqvist is going to need to duplicate his stellar rookie season. I dont think I'd pick them to finish as high as 4th. Also, the pittsburgh ranking of 12th also bewilders me. Their major problems still have not been resolved. Their goaltending is under too much stress for an inconsistent youngster and the D is still sub par.
