06/16/2003 - His stock soared in April after backstopping Slovakia to a silver medal at the World Under-18’s in Russia (2.00 GAA, .932 Sv%). A poised, hybrid goalie with excellent flexibility and a very active glove hand, Halak is so calm that he often looks like he’s waiting for a bus. He plays an economical style, always staying square to the shooter and is never out of position for rebounds.

Here's what I found about the Euro goalies ranking as of January 2003.

http://nhl.speedera.net/futures/cssr...urogoalies.pdf

P.S. Note that Heino was 13th while Halak was 6th at one point.....

His downside for me is that he often has that tendancy of being way too deep in his net. And from Timmins himself, he told me that he does that when he loses his confidence. So I guess he needs to work on his confidence level, and if he continues the way he did in Hamilton, he will have all that confidence needed to go a long way.

So do I. It seems like Halak was much better than Danis when he went back in Hamilton.

exactly what i was going to say, He is just like vokoun in that he is a hidden gem that will surface this season in hamilton....He will become the #1 by seasons end weather Danis moves up to MTL or if they platoon all year. Halak will be the playoff goalie for hamilton. MY opinion but i bet a lot of ppl here agree..

I agree Halak was better then Danis but it was only 13 games and imo Halak wasn't as sharp in the last 2 or so starts, while Danis at that time was struggling a bit, but seemed to play better towards the end. As a guess, I assume they will go with a 1A 1B type rotation unless one gets really hot or another struggles. A Danis-Halak combo is great news for the Dogs, should be one of the strong points on the team. Danis is such a solid goalie, usually you know what your getting with him. I'm a huge fan of the way he plays, at times he reminds me of a robot, always in good position, great technically. I get concerned about him dropping too soon and leaving space up high but overall I think he's a very good goalie.

With Halak he's been good everywhere he's played despite a somewhat strange style. He took Hamilton by storm and put up some damn impressive numbers. That said it was only 13 games and we'll need to see how he handles a full season. I know that in the past I have underrated him, often putting him just under Christopher Heino, who imo is also a very good goalie prospect but now I fear we may never see him in North America which is a shame. I fully expect Halak to have a great year in Hamilton and can't wait to see what he can do.
