They could have taken Stepan, amongst others.

Remember how people on this board were killing the Stepan pick?

Craig Custance spoke to Jeff Gorton. The Rangers aren't going to react to what PItt did. They have a plan in place on what they want to do. "Can't get drawn into other things". He discussed the Nash trade. Called Nash a "great player". Gorton said they have many discussions within the organization about the depth they gave up. "We know where we're at. We knew this could be a potential issue." Its an ESPN Insider article.

Rangers shouldn't trade Mcilrath... bad deal for NYR. NYR don't need another long contract in Vanek.

That's good because they really can't.

Why are you including McIlrath in trades for 33 year old Dmen?

Let's trade a young tough Dman for a 33 year old dman so the other team can replace the toughness they lost.
Brilliant!

It's more for Vanek. Leopold/Regehr are in there because the difference between Vanek and Gaborik is smaller than McI. Maybe make it Gerbe instead of a d-man?

Why was there ever discussion to reacting to the Iginla trade? We're not even in the same league as them. That thought never should have entered anyone's mind. We're not contenders. We're a bubble team. There's no response to be made.

i think the rangers need to start getting a little quicker, especially on their bottom lines. I think if you could trade Gaborik for 2 or 3 "fast" 3rd liners...i'd do it. Like Sjostroms...guys who don't score, but can create havoc with their speed....

I like the idea of trading Gaborik for more depth, but not like Sjostrom depth.

To LA:
Gaborik

To NYR:
Justin Williams
+

To Buffalo:
Said plus

To NYR:
Steve Ott

Saves 900K on the cap next year, with one more roster spot filled.

yea that would be a good deal. At the time EC and Armstrong were pretty good players. Getting a first back is important and Esposito was a former 1st rounder.

It seems if they dont make a deal like that now Gaborik is just going to keep struggling and then they will move him at the draft anyway.

I cant believe it but I think someone is going to bite and the Rangers will shake things up. They also have guys like Pyatt and Boyle they can add to the mix

Here are the Gorton quotes

Quote:
In an equally tough spot are the New York Rangers, who cling to the No. 8 spot following a loss to the Senators and another win by the suddenly surging Islanders. The Blueshirts are still a team capable of making a long playoff run, they just have to get there first.

The Penguins' moves put pressure on their conference rivals to keep up.

"Obviously, you're watching what other teams do," Gorton said. "I don't think it can dictate what we're going to do. Most teams, including us, have a plan in place on what we want to do. That's what we're going to do. I don't think you can get drawn into things because of what another team does."

The Rangers have a need for a right-handed shot defenseman and would like to bolster some of the depth lost in the Rick Nash trade. But these aren't new issues. The Pittsburgh trades change nothing on that front.

"We knew when we traded for Rick we were giving up depth for a great player. We've had a number of discussions inside the organization," Gorton said. "We know where we're at. We knew this could be a potential issue."

PCD's are extremely rare. Those are guys like Karlsson, Letang, and Campbell.

Also, I have watched quite a bit of Shattenkirk, he is not a PCD(or as much of PCD as McD or Del Z is).

By the way, if you haven't noticed: Torts doesn't like his Dman rushing the puck unless they can catch a team in a line change or a massive defensive breakdown. So we probably have a couple guys who can lead the rush occasionally. But that isn't our system.
It's a matter of opinion and what you're definition is of a PMD.

Here is a good article http://www.inlouwetrust.com/2011/7/3...enseman-anyway

I want my PMD to be able to skate at a high level, MDZ simply does not do that.

The only thing missing with Del Z is him being paired with a hard shooting Dman. I can only imagine the amount damage Del Z could do with Shea Weber.
Kaberle was one of the best skaters in the league.

This is a pretty absurd way to look at our defense scenario. MDZ shouldn't be rotted as a PP specialist/sheltered defenseman, he's always been a capable 2-way defender in Jrs who plays physical.

I've only seen the Canes twice this year, not including Ranger games, with the last being against the Peg a few days ago, and both times he has looked out of his depth. Has some potential but looks a long way off.

At this point I hope they do nothing but try to acquire a 1st. If that means moving Gaborik so be it.

Bring on the off-season, bring on next year. I am excited for next year already and this one isn't even over yet. Sad.

Too bad this team is always buying and only selling what will bring back something to help get them in to the playoffs, and not the following years. Always about money, always about lining Dolan's pockets.
