Oscar told me that he's going to travel to Edmonton April 7th. He will be in town for nearly three weeks and Oilers wants him to be ready to jump in if they could claim a playoff spot.

He also said that the Oilers wants him to play together with Justin Schultz. Apparently Krueger also told Oscar to watch Nick Schultz closely and try to learn from his style of play.

Oscar also said that he feels stronger than ever after his rehab and that he's really looking forward to next season. He moves to Edmonton in September and said that the city was the best place to be in the NHL for a rookie.

A longer interview with Oscar will be presented att hockeysverige.se this weekend.
Sounds like Oscar is getting some red carpet treatment. Good for him.

They want him to learn from NICK SCHULTZ? Nick GOD DAMN Schultz? In this era of video and Internet and accessibility, why not have him learn from OEL or Brent Seabrook?

Exciting to see him coming here nonetheless.

First off that avatar is LOL worthy! Secondly, yeah maybe Minnesota's version of Nick Schultz, this year's version hasn't been that great TBH.

I think I am "over-interpreting" here but his quote about N.Schultz was: ... who has been very good for several years. When I read it in Swedish the first thing that I thought was that he didn't use present tense, instead he chose to use past tense to say that N.Schultz was a good defenseman.

Bah, I think my interpretation might be influenced by my current thoughts on the game of N.Schultz...

Haha it's funny because his name is Oscar. The same as the Oscars award show.

That list is probably quite long.

The guy has played 12 seasons and nearly 800 games in the best league in the world. Almost all of it in a top 4 role.

As per Tencer, Klefbom is in Edmonton and will be practicing with the Oilers over the next week. However, hhis shoulder is still not medically cleared and he should not be expected to appear in either the NHL or the AHL this season.

Too bad about that, not being able to play this season, however it's good they have him here getting used to the system, his teammates and the NHL in general.

Oscar Klefbom

Quote:
If anybody’s throwing out defenceman Oscar Klefbom’s name as possible bait to get a high-end forward, it’s a total non-starter.

The Oilers love Klefbom and feel he can be an NHLer next season, with no pit stop in Oklahoma City.

They seriously feel Minnesota Wild rookie Jonas Brodin’s Swedish League (Farjestads) defence partner is top two material and the obvious long-term partner for Justin Schultz.

We know what draft analyst Craig Button thinks of Klefbom. “I think he could be another Brent Seabrook,” said the former NHL GM.
http://blogs.edmontonjournal.com/201...eric-hartzell/

Do you think Klefbom is NHL ready right now? Should Edmonton plan on him being in the top six? Should they plan on him as a No.7-8? Should they plan to send him to OKC first? The decision on him affects who we go after on D this summer.

Personally, I think you see how he does in training camp with the mindset that he is going to OKC unless he heavily outplays Potter for the No.6 or 7 spot. What do you guys think?

I think I am the biggest Klefbom fan on this site and I hope the oilers start him on the farm so he can adapt to NA hockey

He's ready, but it would be nice to see him get some action in OKC first.

this is kinda what i think as well... he could likely play in the NHL next year and not be *terrible*, but why not give him at least 20-30 games in the AHL... less pressure, he can get "justin schultz minutes" (read: 30+ minutes/games) and get accustomed to the NA style of hockey

i think he's good enough to play at least bottom pairing minutes, but i don't think that is the best for him long term

There is no doubt he is ready-- but he missed this year and we need to be patient with him

Sounds fun.

Can't wait for the 20 year old rookie defenseman who has played 11 games of hockey in a year and a half to suit up for the Oilers next year. It should herald great improvement in the defensive ability of the team.

Definitely a bold move for sure.

"Ready to play in the NHL without a stop in OKC"

... great. That means they'll count him as bringing in a new D for next year, and won't have to worry about finding a vet that way!

Then someone in the top 6 goes down, and Potter will be playing top 4 minutes again.

Typical Oiler move.

he is good, but if the oilers are smart they will have him start on the farm for 40+ games

Agree with everyone else. I'd like him to play in the AHL for hopefully the whole season. Get acclimated to NA, get back to playing hockey after the long injury, and get some seasoning to keep developing properly. The last thing I want to do is ruin Klefbom.

Exactly. We'll get the preseason line how he's NHL ready, they'll throw him into the fire, and likely not address the glaring need for experienced D over the summer.

Oiler template:
1. Overlook/fail to address a need.
2. Throw a rookie/young player in. Talk about youth and the rebuild.
3. Inevitable injury during the year. Lack of depth exposed, fall in the standings.
4. Pick 1st overall.

2-3 Months on the farm, let him ripen a little bit then bring him up around Christmas, as long as he is dominating at the AHL level. I have no problem with him being ther for the full year with a small taste here and there, love him as a prospect though seems like te kinda guy who will log 25 mins every night.

What is going on with Klefbom, I heard he might be coming to EDM or something this month. How is his injury coming?

If he's NHL ready than he's NHL ready.
What's the point of starting him in OKC if he doesn't belong there?

That being said, I hope the Oilers do the right thing and don't just give him a job. Hopefully GMMACT (coining that now) can bring in some help on D and actually make this kid earn the job in TC.

It's good to hear he's off the table. I was a little worried he'd be one of the guys going the other way to shake up our roster
