lmao how have you never heard of Ryan Sproul or Xavier Ouellet

Think of how badly Detroit has wanted a physical second pairing defensive guy. Danny has the potential to be that player.

All have pretty nice ceilings. Not likely that all reach them or come close, but reasonable to expect that some will.

why did he go through all the motions if he knew in his heart he was going to be a wing? Was he looking to see if anyone could change his mind?

Congrats to both the Red Wings organization and Danny DeKeyser. Hopefully turns into a long and healthy relationship for the good of the team.

Absolutely. But even more than that, just a stay-at-home guy. Too many guys on the team currently who are (for lack of a better term) "wannabe" offensive players. A guy like Sproul will work best if he has the freedom to roam and play his game. Was looking forward to a Smith-Sproul pairing in the future, but DeKeyser-Sproul might compliment each other even better.

Dekeyser-Smith
Ouellet-Sproul

makes so much more sense

Most predictable signing ever. Good luck to DeKeyser.

Might not necessarily be "On topic", depending on where DeKeyser plays, but Detroit's potential AHL roster looks ridiculous.

Only guy I know of who CAN'T play in the playoffs is Jarnkrok. But next year is insane. Sproul, Ouellet, Jarnkrok, and Pulkkinen all probably joining the AHL.

I believe Frk is joining as well.

Since I'm quoting Pronman...

From NHL scouts I've talked to and as well as my own observations, DeKeyser is NHL ready and projects as an above-average NHL defenseman.

From top to bottom they have quantity with quality. This move gives them another option if they wanted to acquire a top player as losing a Sproul or Ouellett won't hurt as much.

Very deep organization. What's ridiculous is they've drafted in the top 20 like once in 20 years.

I don't want to sound like the obligatory "he didn't sign with my team but he signed with a rival now it's time to hate him" fan, but this process was a bit stupid. If it was so clearly the favorite team winning the sweepstakes, why did it have to take this long?
