He's making the biggest decision of his career. It didn't take long for someone doing that , it just took long for the people mashing their refresh buttons at home.

Don't see how it makes" so much more" sense, but to each their own. I think Ouellet-Smith, DeKeyser-Sproul would compliment each other better. We'll see in the future.

simply wanted to explore all his options? it was a huge decision for him to make.

Don't listen to rumors and twitter.

Everybody knew it was going to be Detroit, but they kept making it sound like other teams had a shot.

Meh. Either way, it's a defensive with an offensive.

If they all pan out nicely, we're very well set for the future.

I honestly think he didn't make his mind up until last night possibly this morning. I really think the ones it came down to were Nashville, Detroit and Edmonton. Anaheim and St.Louis could make very big pitches to him also, so I would say they're right behind those 3. MLive is reporting these teams were in the sweepstakes:

Quote:
Toronto, Anaheim, St. Louis, Edmtonton, Philadelphia, Ottawa and Nashville are believed to be the other teams that were in the running for DeKeyser's services.
The only thing I wish he would've done was just announce the team he choose at noon. He made everyone sit here for the past 4 1/2 hours refreshing their page, checking twitter, and looking for anything to give them a sign. That was ridiculous but for all we know, it could've been his agent or the Detroit franchise that made him delay the announcement.

Detroit is getting much bigger and much more mobile on D with this defensive prospect pool.

they were already close to 10 if not around 8. that being said I think they could be top 6-7ish. with the improvement of Mrazek, and Sproul this year plus Pulkkinen's skating becoming average and his defensive game becoming a strong point. this add up. I wonder where Pittsburgh is now after trading 3 prospects away

Considering only one of those prospects was worth anything, they haven't moved much.

Evidently, DeKeyser's news was slow to become public because he asked permission to personally call the other teams who showed interest.

Well, maybe that won't take 4 hours but some time.

Haha, I sorta called that.

They may be calling franchises right now to notify them that he is not accepting their offer, but thanks for your time and consideration. That way they aren't all just finding out if they got him or not via television. Otherwise, his agency looks stupid for saying "He'll be announcing no later than by noon tomorrow!"

Makes sense. Some teams really brought the whole management team to meet him. That is something he can do to say thanks for showing interest.

It might take that long by the time you get through all the "B-b-but we can do this!" from the teams he turned down.

I guess he'll be 26 when he makes the team.

Seriously though, that is a pretty awesome move by him. Wish him a good career and congrats to Detroit. Seems you got a good character guy for your franchise!

It's not often that players that have never played in the NHL get so much attention at the age of 23.

I'd be basking in the attention for a while before I make the decision too..

Plus, favorite team does not mean best career path.

He had to weigh the pros and cons of each team involved.

The rumor is that he'll be 23 when he makes the team.

(He's 23 now.)

Not a surprise!

By the way, this gives Detroit 36 players under contract for next season. They will have some tough decisions to make to fit under the 50 contracts limit this summer.

UFAs (9) : Filppula, Cleary, Brunner, Miller, White, Huskins, Howard, Paré, Pearce
RFAs (7): Andersson, Nyquist, Kindl, Smith, McCollum, Mursak, Raedeke
Prospects to sign (or less they'll loose their rights) (4) : Quine, Backman, Nedomlel, Marcenko

Detroit is also rumored to have sign NCAA free agent Jared Coreau.

One would think so... Teams like Edmonton and Nashville probably promised icetime in the nhl right away.. Detroit probably would have to make the same promise or he would have signed elsewhere.
