Theres actually 3 on Matsqui compound. Matsqui, FVI (womens) and PI which is the regional hospital (loony tunes as well). However really who cares.

My vote goes for Conair . For those that don't know Conair is Canada’s most experienced specialty aircraft operations provider, delivering a comprehensive range of aerial fire control products and services. Maybe a sponsor ship deal could be worked out?? Be nice if team actually made money as the Heat turn a loss every year and Abbotsford City made a stupid deal to cover loses. Maybe somebody else who knows more could give more detail.

It won't play in Peoria (next season)

http://www.pjstar.com/rivermen/x1037...en-are-leaving

Quote:
The St. Louis Blues have notified the Peoria Civic Center, in an email, they are moving the Peoria Rivermen out of central Illinois at the end of the 2012-13 season.
Wonder if this is another shoe dropping in the Canucks AHL team to Abby story? Or at least the Canucks owning their own AHL affiliate.

The story has been updated since it first appeared:

Quote:
NHL and AHL sources believe the Blues sold the AHL Rivermen franchise to Vancouver, as expected, in a move detailed in a Journal Star story earlier this month.

Sure seems like it. The rumours have been that VAN would buy Peoria to move them to Abby.

STL AHL affilate gone after this year

The St. Louis Blues are reporting that their AHL affiliate, Peoria Rivermen, are done after this year. I know about a month ago there were talks that the Blues and Canucks would switch affiliates and the Canucks would then move Peoria somewhere closer to Vancouver. Do you guys see this as a reasonable possibility?

I personally don't want the Nucks to move their AHL team to Abby...

The way I see it, here are the pros and cons:

Pros
1) More opportunity for Nucks management to watch the young players on a regular basis
2) Close proximity for a callup (if both teams are at home, if one is on the road, irrelevant)
3) Should be good support from the Abby community
4) Allows Van fans to see the prospects as I suspect we could see some of their games on Sportsnet Pacific or something.
5) Full control over the team versus just supplying players like we do for the Wolves

Cons
1) Location of the Abby team to the other AHL teams. Abby is basically on their own island. Closest AHL team is the OKC Oil Barons.
2) Less practice time for the players due to the longer travel. Or longer road trips.
3) Visiting teams plays 2 games here then leave. Will that hurt ticket sales or help? Do not know.

I'd rather see the Nucks keep their AHL team somewhere in the central or eastern time zone. Team always carries extra players, so rarely would they depend on a player arriving just an hour prior to game time.

Seems like one thing falling into place for sure, hopefully more details come out soon. Would be exciting to have Vancouver's farm team in Abbotsford!

Abbotsford being the Canucks farm team just makes so much sense. They would likely sell out too.

As a fan, I would love our farm team to be in Abby, but I don't know if it is the best thing for the franchise

How is this not getting more attention, Friday night I guess...

So if this is true the Canucks own an AHL team, which is good no matter where it is.

So this transaction was done secretly? I didn't know that was possible in the realm of Professional Sports.

I'm happy.
I was never a fan of having the Wolves as an affiliate since they will play veterans over young, developing players so they can win.

I think you will all be disappointed when you find this trend continues somewhat.

I think going forward you will find that there will be less vets in the lineup, but the vets will still get a coach's preference.

Pretty cool that we own our own farm team now; allows for a top-down strategy for the whole organization.

Now, wonder if the next step is to relocate the team to Abbotsford...
