Swift Current eliminated. We'll see what happens now.

Seriously.

Teams that head into the playoffs normally bring in a few junior players to skate with the black aces and in case of injury as well. Give Lowry a look in practice and see if his feet can keep the pace; if they can then use him in a couple of games in an energy role.

Go With something like....
Thorburn Lowry Peluso
or
Tangradi Lowry Peluso

The kid can play and is super smart with the puck.

Two impact freshman , for all the talk about how we lack depth , top 6 forwards etc. ( and we do ) the build through the draft that were told has seen both quality and some quantity in just 2 years.

From Goalie Guild's breakdown of the NCAA:
Quote:
UMASS-LOWELL Ė Connor Hellebuyck: Itís rare to see an NAHL goaltender get inserted directly into the lineup of an NCAA D1 program, but both Anthony Stolarz (now in the OHL) and Hellebuyck completed that feat this season. A draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, Hellebuyck was named the Tournament MVP after leading the River Hawks to a Hockey East title.

Hellebuyck enters the tournament with an 18-2-0 record, plus an NCAA-leading .949 SV%. He was second in GAA (1.38) only to Ryan McKay. At 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, Connor brings an intimidating frame to the crease, and his confidence level reinforces that intimidation factor.

Like Wilcox in Minnesota, Connor settled into the starterís role after just a few games and never looked back. Connor lost his NCAA debut to DU by allowing five goals on 28 shots, and after more than a month between starts, went on a rampage and pitched shutouts in two of his next three starts.

If thereís one area of Connorís game that has vastly improved since his final games with the Odessa Jackalopes, it would be his skating. Less than a year ago, he relied too much on his size to take away time and space from a shooter, but rebound control and staying upright to make secondary saves was an area of concern.

But over the course of this season, scouts have pointed to his improved footwork as a big reason why heís now looking at a chance to lead the River Hawks to an NCAA title.

Don't forget Kasdorf, 3 impact freshman and a couple of CHL standouts has our prospect pool in much better shape then when TNSE first took over the team.

Is everyone still in chruch? Just got back myself and thought we'd have live updates in the U MASS-LOWELL game. They are up 3-0 with 4 minutes to play in the 2nd period vs Wisconsin. These guys are for real, hopefully our tendy prospect can post the shutout!

Connor Hellebuyck backstopping UMass-Lowell
Freshman goaltender fell in nicely at Lowell, hitting it just right

It's friday?

Anyways, Hellebuyck is certainly having a great freshman year. Hopefully he can continue to develop.

Bruins fan dropping by. I've watched Hellebucyk's last 10 games in a row. He's playing absurdly well his entire team has confidence playing in front him. Extremely impressed with his play. Congrats.

Oh. People go to church for that? Shows what I know and care about organized religion

However, that is not a topic we should be discussing here

Hellebuyck, Kasdorf and Phillips all with solid freshman years. Gotta like what you are seeing out of these guys. This is why I like taking goalies in late rounds, particularly NCAA goalies. Goalies are so hard to predict and it's amazing how many of the top goalies are picked rounds 3-7.

Yowza. Kid is on fire. For fun I searched some of the old posts from around the time of the draft where everyone was like "WHO?! WHY?!" A couple folks giving an "F" grade to Hellebuyck pick, heh. Which I could appreciate at the time, but what a difference a season makes... Jets holding rights to the best goalie in the NCAA! Hope he continues developing, but so far at least this is looking like really nice work by Chevy and scouts -- total sleeper.

Wait. People were actually angry with rounds 6 and 7 picks? How the hell is that even possible? Those are absolute crap shoots at best.

With the game misconduct at the end there, is it safe to assume that he'll start the next season suspended? I don't think he'll be moving on to the AHL next year.

I think he was due to be back in the OHL anyway IIRC. He was just drafted last summer.

As I recall it was because there was a few other "higher rated" goalies (Houser and Makarov) available.

I liked the pick only after doing research and finding out he showed tremendous talent, but was extremely raw.

I believe there was a lot of *****ing and moaning about our late picks last year as Andrei Makarov was still available at the time. He was 7th on the NHL's North American Goalie Final Rankings while Hellebuyck wasn't ranked. Makarov went undrafted and Hellebuyck ended up going in the 5th round...go figure.
