OT: Malkin disappeared?

Quote:
According to Reuters, the Russian news agency Itar-Tass is reporting that Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Evgeni Malkin has left his Russian club Metallurg Magnitogorsk during training camp in Finland. Malkin reportedly disappeared, taking his belongings and passport with him. Earlier this week, the Russian star reworked his two-year contract with his Russian team and agreed to a new one-year deal, setting the stage for a move to the NHL next season.

Anyone else think Bob Gainey is behind this? With a little work maybe he can change his name to Mike Ribeiro...expect the unexpected.

Let's do something...we send them Mike Ribeiro in Russia and we keep Malkin!

Wow good for Malkin if he fleas Russia to play in the NHL.
I wonder how Russia will feel about that though!

Ahahaahaha

No but I'm looking forward to seeing him play in the NHL...I hope he doesn't have to screw the russians over though

I never thought it would need to happen again.

But I believe he really might have pulled a Stastny, and might just pop up in Pittsburgh soon.

In 2006?

That is so wrong. In other news, we really should smuggle out Emelin.

Eklund says that his sources told him he was flying to Canada.

Why he would have signed a contract if he want to go out of Russia ? That kinda strange.. ark1 theory seems interesting however

I think he had a two years contract but the team accepted to renegotiate a one year contract

I'm not sure about which Popovic you're speaking, as Mark is a recent Canadian Ducks draftee and Peter is a Swedish that played most of his NHL career as a Hab.

At one point, we would have liked him to disappear, but to cross the Atlantic from West to East.

End of the day - paying the RSL 200K for Malkin is BS. We have not seen the end of this one. If he plays in the NHL without major compensation then what we are seeing is a rip off by the NHL. Not Good Folks!

Ah... peter popovic... what memories.

I still remember when that 6'6'' tower of strenght got his *** handed to him by a scrub.

I remember almost having a heart attack when I saw Popovic with the ducks. All got better when I realised they weren't the same one.

I think it's pretty evident that I was talking about Peter Popovic

Well, from Sweden, I don't think he had any problems.

I, now officially hope that those Ryder and Markov(not for Malkin, just the players) rumors are true

Agree; this could set up future problems if the NHL/Capitals condone this by allowing Malkin to play without the proper compensation.

A deal is a deal; I hope the NHL does the right thing.

I feel bad for Malkin in all of this. He's just a kid who wants to play in th NHL, but is a pawn in the NHL/RSL fight.

He's 20 years old, he's no kid. The guy is involved in a multimillion dollar affair, he may be a pawn, but he's got his part to play.
