Great signing! Wouldn't be surprise to see Islanders re-signed Streit and Nabokov in the next few weeks.

Also, I have a feeling that NYI could add a 2nd or 3rd line forward and a dman at the deadline. The possibility of playing at least 2 home games during the playoffs ($) means a lot more to Wang than a few picks or prospects.

I wouldn't dump Streit just because they signed Lubo. Seems kind of silly to me..... it would make that signing a lateral move.

Visnovsky
Streit
MacDonald

That's a pretty strong left side..... add another defensive RHD to Hamonic and Carkner and we're in business.

thanks. this is because our fans on HF are just fans- no frontrunners here... for obvious reasons.

Nabokov then Visnovsky. I'm guessing Long Island isn't as bad as it seems.

*Fanboy hat on* Players genuinely seem to like the organization when they actually get here. This is despite having subpar amenities (****** locker room, ****** practice arena). Somehow, the organization (yes, its sorta unbelievable) and the area seems to win them over. Doug Weight decided to stick around, he could have probably gotten any cushy front-office gig he wanted. Bill Guerin decided to live on Long Island post career. Those are pretty big indicators that they are doing something right.

Despite the owner from hell
Despite the backup goaltender for a GM
Despite the inability to attract FAs
Despite the Yashin and Dipietro contracts

Despite everything, they still might make the playoffs and they're still doing better than some franchises.

I think a lot of us isles fans owe Lubo an apology.

All along he claimed that his problem was he didn't want to move anywhere and it wasn't about the isles. Nobody believed him, but looks like it was the truth.

Great signing for the isles. A fair price and term.

It could just be that the simplest answer is the most likely, that as they always stated, it wasn't anything against the Islanders, and the reasons they gave for not reporting were the real reasons they were not reporting.

For those that don't remember, Nabby stated he didn't report because there wasn't enough time left in the season to get back in game shape, and he only signed with the Wings because he felt he could be in game shape by the playoffs. Since the Islanders had no shot at the playoffs that season, it didn't make sense to get into game shape to play a couple meaningless games.

Visnovksy always stated that he tried to block the trade based on the principle of having his NMC honored, and it had nothing to do with the Islanders. Then after the lockout, it was just his desire to finish what he had started that season with Slovan, and again was nothing against playing with the Islanders.

If anything, I think fan and media speculation overreacted, and that these two's willingess to re-sign shows that maybe, just maybe, they were telling the truth all along.

Anyway, I'm glad to have him for another couple seasons. Contract is a little high (IMO, should be more around 3-4m per year), but given the Islanders poor track recorfd with attracting UFAs, I'm perfectly fine with it.

One of the biggest reason why winning a cup would be even more special for NYI and Snow who gets bashed for no reason. Wang is a different story but alot will change with the new arena deal.

You think Tavares is happy ? It must be nice for a young star to see the Islanders being able to make the impossible become possible. He must be thrilled to see a guy who didn't wanna be on Long Island, decide to stay. Now if Streit and Nabokov resign, Tavares will be even happier.

I think Lubo's awesome but that's a pretty steep cap hit at this point.

Good news for the Islanders. It will be interesting to see what they do with Streit, but Viz has been very good. That decision will come at the deadline likely.

The Isles are going to see their first bunch of defensive prospects come in this year. Reinhart, Donovan, Mayfield, Pedan and Kitchon may all make it here by camp or sooner.

His high cap hit is a good thing for the Isles. They have been masterfully circumventing the cap floor, but the new CBA means that they actually have to spend some money. Better to spend it on Visnovsky to keep him around. They still have work to do to get above the cap floor next season too.

No doubt, but the defense HAS to have a player that can show the ropes. It is super important looking at the youth coming up. There are no ufa's out there right now (might be after buyouts or threw a trade).

Glad for the Islanders, good deal.

Good to see them acquiring talent and being able to keep the players around. Speaks volumes to the direction this team is headed.
