Good Friday Massacre

A total of 252 penalty minutes were incurred and 10 players were ejected.

I'd take one of these every once in a while over a nightly staged goon battle every time.

This was the epitome of a brawl at its finest. Two teams that flat out hated each other with a blind passion. In the 1980s there was a little bit of a break with the Boston/Montreal rivalry. But Quebec/Montreal really picked it up and they had some wonderful playoff series between the two. 1982 and 1985 both were series that ended on an overtime goal in the clinching game and 1984 had the massacre. Great times.

It was so intense the Hunter brothers grappled on the ice. Families came to blows watching the game at home... spectacular yes, a part of Quebec lore forever, but also a very sad sight when you think about it.

Ron Fournier once said that instead of his mandatory post-game report, referee Bruce Hood faxed the league a piece of paper that said "I Quit" and that was it for Bruce Hood in the NHL.
