Is that (shutdown) ability what nurse is known for and why he is viewed as a potential top 10 pick?

I ask because I'm trying to get a feel for some of these guys. I'm also trying to gauge Cat's production (or lack of) in light of that.

If so, very impressive for Nurse. Either means he's a better skater than I thought he was (not to get burned by Catenacci's speed), or his defensive smarts are just so good that they make up the difference, because Catenacci is a darn good player at the OHL level.

Yes, the Blades were very porous defensively whenever I watched them.
It's not like Halifax, who end up with low shots against but the shots they do give up are of the high quality variety, they were just a poor defensive team.

So, maybe he'll fit right in here.

Edit: If you run the numbers, he faced 32.3 shots against/60 (1875 shots against/3487 minutes played * 60) and was fourth in the league in shots against, behind Brandon Glover (Seattle, no further explanation needed), Ty Rimmer (Lethbridge, missed the playoffs and fired everyone), and Luke Siemens (Prince Albert, lost in the first round).

Nurse is definitely known for being solid defensively, but what's garnering him potential top 10 pick status is his development curve. He's made HUGE strides in the last year or so, especially offensively.

Sounds like things could get quite ugly for Makarov in the Memorial Cup.

I actually think they could be pretty dangerous, as they're essentially going to have a six week training camp with minimal distractions (all of the players are likely done with classes because most teams accelerate schooling compared to regular kids so that they're out of school by the stretch drive).
They'll probably have systems burned into their minds by the time the tournament comes around, so it really depends if they want to buy in (based on the behind the scenes show On The Edge, they seem to have issues with this as a team) and if they're able to get back up to game speed after six weeks of intrasquad scrimmages.

Schaller is a 6'2", 210-pound center who just finished up at Providence. Named Hockey East Best Defensive Forward

Good size, 3rd in scoring and voted best defensive forward in Hockey East. Not bad.

Per Bakes, 56% on his draws this year too, blocks shots and can score timely goals. Hopefully it can translate to the next level

Kevin Oklobzija on McCabe's future:
Quote:
The University of Wisconsin was eliminated from the NCAA tournament today, losing 6-1 to UMass-Lowell, but the Sabres aren’t expecting Badgers sophomore defenseman Jake McCabe to sign a contract.

McCabe was Buffalo’s second-round pick but it’s believed that he wants to finish his eligibility at Wisconsin.

I have no problem with it. Let's not forget that Wisconsin is about 100x better at developing defnseman that Buffalo.

I'm fine either way it goes. At the very least it may well be best for him to play his junior year out. Might prefer he not play his senior season but at the end of the day he's not going to be in Buffalo in either case.

Considering his development curve since he got to Wisconsin, it's safe to say he's in a good place to grow as a player.

Stay in College until he is NHL ready, would stay for 2 more years if I were him, he will be only 22 when he is done.

Armia got an assist on Ässäts 3rd goal tonight, was his shot from the boards, hit everything and then some on the way, bounced in from Savinainens hand

3-3 after 3rd period, heading to OT now. Game 1 of the Semis

So Matt Hackett is now tied with Grigorenko as our no. 1 because HF gave them the same ranking?
