I'm talking overpayment that leaves another hole to be filled

Trade Weber to Philly for a 3rd. They're in dire need of defensemen. We get another high 3rd round pick. This proposal is for the draft junkies.

MB more likely to move one of our small forwards before picks of any denomination.
Not likely to happen until off season...
Throw some guesses as to which one(s)

I heard Ryane Clowe isn't worth much on the market. Iggy set the market price, 2 mid prospects and a 1st. Morrow went for a prospect.

I think Ryan White and Yannick Weber could be traded.

Assuming "small" is below 6', I'm not sure who is easily moved.

Gionta makes the most sense to upgrade, but is the team captain
Desharnais was just extended.
Plekanec is our best forward, an is not actually undersized.
Gallagher is favourite for calder, is clutch as hell.
Dumont?

I know everyone is insecure about the "smurfs", but who exactly is an easy upgrade from?

Geez, the deadline can't come soon enough, people are losing their minds!

Buying out Gionta?
Trading for Campbell?

Wow, this madness can't end soon enough...

I don't think anyone actually suggesting to buy-out Gionta. We shouldn't buy-out anyone, much less a serviceable winger who can reasonably pot 20goals.

I want to trade Gionta's smurf ass at the first instant though, which is a wildly different expression.

There is no guarantees in the playoffs and things can go wrong, all the moves Pittsburgh has made can win them a cup but they can also go out in the first round(I would love that). Considering the fact that we were so low last year and have made such progress, I would leave them alone. The guys in that room clearly believe in each other and are getting stronger. To lose Bourque,Diaz and Prust and still keep rolling is a very positive sign. I said before that we need a big defenseman but now i'm not so sure. I say for this year to keep going, then buy out Gionta in the summer, I expect Kaberle to either go at the deadline or retire and then we can go for it next year with a couple additions in the summer.

I see it as a "do you want to be traded or bought out type of situation" because if they ask Gionta to waive his NTC and he refuses, MB almost certainly will buy him out come summertime. I would think Gionta would rather be traded to a team that wants him instead.
There it is.

I would bet everything I have (which arguably isn't much) that Gio will play with the habs until the end of his contract unless we are out of the playoffs by next deadline.

Last night on 98.5FM, Renaud Lavoie was on talking about the trade deadline.

Many names are out there, but Lavoie talk only about 3 of them.......
Hemsky, Smid and Clowe.....

Don't know if it was wishful thinking or do we need to read between the lines here?

I love the success we are having this year as much as the next guy but if we miss the playoffs next year we would get really nice pieces back for Markov and gio as rentals

Just hypothetically what'd you think they're worth as rentals?

We can't go slugging with them no point...

I want a guy like talbot or hartnell someone who can draw penalties from these teams you wanna go after

Plus Chara will ignore the heavyweight, lucic probs will too so were getting one to fight guys like Thornton? Orr? No let them ice a guy who's a total liability we are gonna ice the most competive team possible and play montreal style hockey

One thing that could be a little bonus for Habs is,Clowe and Ryder know one another, they golf together.....so Clowe might come cheaper if he says to Sharks i wanna go Habs.
Few more days will know.

I'd be willing to do Leblanc + 2nd (Mtl's) for Clowe... I hope Kristo is kept off of all trade talks ( think he could be a stud ).

Really? A 2nd rounder and a former 1st rounder for a guy that has less goals than Brodeur, about the same amount of points as Gomez and the same amount of fights as 'Peace Corps' member Moen? Not to mention he's a UFA, so at best we would get 13 games (if we trade for him tomorrow) + whatever the playoffs give us.

Massive overpayment IMO.

I know that Sharks fans are looking for a late 1st, but I personally find that laughable.

Clowe probably isn't as bad as his stats indicate, but I have watched him play enough this year to know that he is clearly regressing. Plus he's slow. I'm talking Jason Allison slow. I have a sneaking suspicion that those clamoring for Clowe haven't watched him play much this year.

Any pick habs send in an offer, should be a conditional on Clowe resigning..

Clowe's favorite team growing up was?Montreal Canadiens
So if we can't get him before deadline, good chance we can get him ufa this summer.

Ryane Clowe: I was a Montreal Canadiens fan growing up. I was a big Brian Bellows fan. I also liked watching a young Eric Lindros when he broke into the League. He was a true power forward and a lot of fun to watch.

A lot of good signs for Clowe coming to Montreal now or this summer.
