As for the earning ice-time comments:

"We want him to stay with us the rest of the season, we think it'll be a good learning experience," general manager Ken Holland said.

I hope kenny isnt starting this bull-**** again and not letting the kid play! the news says he will NOT be playing sunday or monday! How can they determine that before practice ? what if he comes in and blows them away? why have you mind made up? to play lashoff?

Hope the kid gets a chance to play and show his abilities..
Have been watching and waiting, like many here, for him to sign (whether it was with the Wings or not, glad he did sign with us) as I believe that adding any prospect to an organization without giving up any assets, is a plus.
As some have pointed out, we do have a deep prospect pool now on D, so we do have options to trade for other assets/help at other positions.
Go Wings Go!!!

He doesn't even know the Wings system, this isn't some veteran we're plugging in who's played in the NHL for 10 years. There's no harm in getting him a few practices under his belt and acclimated to his teammates before inserting him.

What exactly has Dekyser done to earn playing time?

Professional sports isn't meant to appease armchair fans who believe things operate like a video game.

This. He's not going to come in immediately and blow us away with raw talent. Preparedness is part of being a professional athlete and will be key to his success. Remember when KFQ first came back, he looked completely out of his element on this team. He had no time to get accustomed to our system.

Be patient.

On NHL 13 he starts on Sunday. You want him to score too? Don't piss me off...

You could have asked that same question regarding any NHL player when they were approaching their entrance into the league.

What did Malkin do to earn playing time?

If a player looks realgood in the league they are in and look likely to also play realgood in the NHL, they get playing time. It's a guy trying to crack Detroit's D. It's not like they are loaded. If you think a guy has a chance to improve what you have, you take a chance on him.

I stopped reading at the Malkin comparison.

I'm the biggest DD fan, i've seen him play about 20 times, but the NCAA is no where near the NHL in terms of talent. There's very little chance he comes in and 'wows' anyone. The hype machine worked really well this week lol. If Babcock does't feel he can handle the NHL, then he should be sent down. Think about it like this, Abdelkaders college resume is about the same as Dekeysers (Abdelkader had the NCAA Championship + Frozen Four MVP, while DD had the CCHA Championship + 2 straight defensive defenseman of the year awards).

That being said, I love watching DD play. He's solid as a rock, and one of the best defensemen i've seen at the college level. I think he has a real shot at a spot on the Wings.

He shouldn't really be in the lineup this year if we're healthy IMO. Maybe for a game or two max. This isn't the season to throw away points.

So "Play all the young guys" has gone to "Don't play them, even if they're ready."

well, ten guys who can play defense, but whether they all actually qualify as Dmen is up for debate.

I don't really care if he plays or not, I'm just happy he is signed. Think this was a nice pick-up.

To people saying he shouldn't see the ice this year though. Would you really be surprised if he stepped in and played Lashoff's role better than Lashoff? Because I know I wouldn't.

Kronwall - Ericsson
Lashoff - Smith
Kindl - White

Huskins, CC, Dekeyser, Quincey

Quincey is injured, CC is in Grand-Rapids until Sunday, but won't play until Monday at the earliest and Huskins is our 7th defensemen. So my guess is Dekeyser watches a couple of games, subs in for Lashoff for a couple of games and when/if White or Filppula gets traded, he fills in.

how exactly is an award based on a mere few games of play comparable to two awards based on entire seasons of play?

That's what I was thinking. It's a bad comparison.

Like some have mentioned, DeKeyser isn't the most bulky player at the moment, so he might have some strength issues in this first season. But once this kid starts training for the Pros, he's going to bulk up and he could become a "realgood" player.

You shouldn't have. I'm not comparing DD to Malkin or any elite talent. It's an extreme analogy to counter the thought that since DD is unproven, so why be excited?

EVERY player is unproven at one point.
