McPherson joined Albany last year after his senior season was over. I'm sure they can still find a way to graduate if they leave early.

I'm assuming that Severson will stay in juniors another year? Although he could probably make the jump from juniors to pro just fine. Really love this pick.

Blake Coleman had 2 assists in Miami's 4-0 win over Minnesota State. He's the only Devils prospect left in the NCAA tournament.

Tikhonov keeps rolling in KHL play-off - 10 + 10 after 14 games. Devils should think of getting him. He's center and has a history of playing with Kovalchuk. Loktionov - Tikhonov - Kovalchuk could be a good line. The only problem - SKA is filthy rich. But he's an american boy, I bet he's dreaming about NHL.

Loktionov has been much more effective at center throughout his career. Can Tikhonov play wing?

One of them was a great play down the right wing and a slick centering pass.

Coleman just scored a pretty big goal for Miami Ohio, who had just gone down 2-0. He was posted in the slot while his team cycled, and he got inside position on his d-man after a wide shot. Put the loose puck up high on his backhand.

Miami eliminated. Only Devils prospects still in the playoffs are Matteau, Severson, Thomson, and Gavrus. Matteau and Blainville-Boisbriand, Thomson and Kitchener have already advanced. Gavrus and Owen Sound are up 3-2 in their series and playing tonight. Severson and Kelowna are down 3-2 and don't play until Tuesday.

Yeah, he's playing wing in this play-off, and it looks like he's better winger than center.

The 2nd round is set in the OHL and QMJHL. Kitchener is playing London, Owen Sound is playing Plymouth. Blainville-Boisbriand is playing Val-d'Or

I would guess no. If they were going to join Albany this year they probably would have done it already.

Seattle is a big underdog and was up 3-0 in that series. Four of the six games have gone into OT, including those first three which Seattle won. Pretty big comeback for Kelowna, even if they were favorites.

Kelowna and Seattle going to OT again as Seattle ties it with under 10 seconds left. Severson has an assist and apparently hit the post late in the 3rd.

Looks like Kelowna won in OT. Nutty series to say the least.

I have no problem calling him our best prospect on D. He plays a fantastic all-around game.

Put up 52pts in 71 reg season games then 8pts in 7 playoff games so far.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if not for Merrill's near-perfect start to his professional career, but damn it's nice to know these guys are on the way and that the era of Old and Slow on the backend could be behind us soon.

It's not far off at all. Two years maybe..

At that point the "slowest" d-man we'll ice is probably Helgeson. He's 6'5" 230 but he is a damn good skater and once he gets ahold of you you're eliminated from the play. Not going to put up many pts but that's not his role..

It warms my heart to see a defenceman going P/G in a playoff series. Hope he keeps it up.

Severson has potential to surpass Merrill.

And buy Volchenkov out on July 1.

Kelowna was apparently down to 4 D for that game 7: http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/jrh...tml#more-20829

Quote:
Perhaps Kelowna coming back from a 3-0 series deficit to oust the Seattle Thunderbirds doesn't seem so big, since the Rockets finished 50 points ahead in the standings. Considering Kelowna's injuries — it essentially played with only four defencemen in Game 7 after playing an overtime game one night earlier in Seattle — it is significant. It also affirms about how junior hockey is always about a new hope emerging, in this case Baillie, the 17-year-old who scored all three Rockets goals in the >3-2 win, including the winner 5:10 into overtime.

It's not as big as the championship-winning goal Barrie scored in 2009, but it is only the second time in WHL history a team has fought off the final strike four times in a row to win a series. It's only the ninth time it's happened in the the Canadian Hockey League. The Rockets' final two wins came in overtime on back-to-back nights.

"I was screaming for the puck and [Kelowna defenceman] Madison [Bowey] with his great vision hit me backdoor and I just one-timed it along the ice because I knew [Seattle goalie Brandon] Glover was down and out," Baillie told Kelowna's AM 1050. "Words can't describe it. I was just going crazy. I just kind of blacked out."

With captain Colton Sissons among the injured in suits and ties, Baillie had a huge series. The Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., native who is up for the 2014 NHL draft had seven goals and 12 points across the run of seven games. He was in position to have his second game-winner of the series before Seattle's overage captain Luke Lockhart jammed in the tying goal with 7.3 seconds left.

"It was heartbreaking because we thought we had the game," Baillie said. "Our motto for the past four games has been 'believe.' Someone said 'let's believe' and we went out and did it."

The win sets up an all-B.C. second-round series between the Rockets and the more rested Kamloops Blazers, beginning Saturday in Kelowna. How coach Ryan Huska's Rockets manage to refocus and replenish themselves should factor heavily into how the series unfolds. Bowey, New Jersey Devils second-rounder Damon Severson, MacKenzie Johnston and rookie Riley Stadel were the only regular defencemen Kelowna had available, although centre Colton Heffley took a few shifts on D.
