Re: waivers providing flexibility. I'm told MTL doesn't plan on demoting Kaberle if he clears but will have ability to do so if necessary.

Trade?

Good for him and good for us. Probably tried to trade him with no takers.

I like the job MB is doing.

How does that work? If he is claimed do we eat half his salary?

edit: thanks for the memories Tomas, great career in the bleu blanc et rouge

I doubt they will send him to Hamilton, since we can't buy him out at the end of the season if he's injured.

He'll stay an healthy scratch until the end of the season.

Nanh, that used to be on re-entry, and those were eliminated IIRC.

We can however eat some of his salary if we are desperate to trade him.

Nope. That was only for re-entry waivers but re-entry doesn't exist anymore.

No if he's claimed we dont pay half his salary. Hes just gone. Maybe TO will take a claim or a team looking for a def without loosing assets. They still can buy him out this summer.

From MTL point of view, if we trade Kaberle and we have an injury on D, that his strange. That solidify the idea we might trade for a Dman in the next couple of days.

So if he isn't claimed he's still our problem?

So in the end, Spacek was worth nothing at all, but he helped us tank when we played Car, and CaKa did as well.

Hmmmm... great... trade..?

Yes, but we have the ability to demote him to Hamilton thus creating an extra roster spot.

Won't be shocked to see someone take a chance on him.. he really wasn't THAT bad this year and veteran defenseman are always needed at this time of year.

I've respected Kaberle for being a professional this year, he hasn't complained about being scratched most the year and he's continued to work hard at practice by the sound of things.

If he gets claimed (I guess doubtful at this point, but still), Habs have no more legitimate targets for their second buyout.

Could get creative with that if other teams don't want to use theirs, or want to buy out more than 2 players.

That's an option (and a creative one at that, kudos), but frankly I would be fine without using the second buyout.

What actually will happen: Morgan Ellis call up

I could maybe see WPG or CLB taking a chance since they need PP help, have plenty of cap, and are trying to secure playoff spots. But Jokinen passed because of the extra year, so I'd imagine Kabs is in the same boat.

I have no idea who would take this guy off waivers. Someone who then will get a favor from the Canadiens later on? Thats what it would have to be.

I got nothing to say... Never agreed to the trade and never understood why we got him in the first place. Tanking purposes? Maybe.

I heard they are making room to acquire Jay Bouwmeester. Currently we have $3 mil cap space, putting Kaberle on waviers and potentially sending him to the farm would free up $4.5 mil. Jay Bouwmeester's contract is $6.8 mil.

His salary still counts against the cap even if sent down, apart from 900k. You would only free 900k, so there goes your theory.
