Kinda funny, considering we've got injuries to Weber and Diaz atm, but I guess there's something in motion here that we're not privy to. Going to be interesting the next couple of days.

Paul Martin was injured recently. And with Letang still out (and not 100% for the playoffs), maybe Pittsburgh would try out another PMD?

Oh.. you sneaky Bergevin. The Poison Pill tactic.

If i'm not mistaken, with the new CBA the caphit will remain the same even if Kaberle goas to Hamilton.

So it won't free up $4.25M

I think it's only a way to put Kaberle out there with a free sign on his forehead

Sports talk radio, I don't know if this makes any sense, Jay Bouwmeester could fit into what we need, another top 4 defenseman who can log 25 mins per game, thus reducing Josh Gorges to comfortable 20 mins a game and not 24. The problem here is Jay Bouw is signed for another year at $6.8 mil. He's got size 6'4' 220lbs and skates like the wind.

We probably depart with Louis Leblanc or Dany Kristo and a pick. Guessing that's the going rate.

Extra roster spot if MB decides to trade for a player vs picks/prospects

No way he gets claimed. Kinda interesting to see both Komisarek and Kaberle on waivers this season...wasn't too long ago they were highly regarded.

Imagine we add Jbo to our defense.

Markov-Emelin
Bouwmeester-Subban
Gorges-Diaz
Boullion

I think Subban would want to be paid higher than JBo.

This is doing Kaberle a favor, nothing more. If he gets claimed, that's fantastic news for all involved. If not, then Kaberle realizes his situation and remains a good soldier the rest of this season.

A team like Philly is down 3 regulars on defence right now, I doubt it happens, but you never know.

lol at some of the posts I read here about Kaberle bringing back a 2nd rounder.

The Habs can add a 15 million dollar annual salary according to capgeek since it's all about pro-rated money in the cap system. There goes your theory.

Much like Komisarek, the only way we get rid of Kaberle is if we take on a bad contract coming back to us. Kaberle's role has diminished to that of a 6th defenceman so it would probably have to be an even worse contract. It's not going to happen.

I'm sure MB has tried to trade him. This is just another avenue to get rid of him. Seems pretty unlikely that he gets claimed.

Come on. Not Bouwmeester. I hate his contract and he has no playoff experience. That would be terrible:help

Most creative possible solution is still the one I proposed a while ago : Kaberle for Dipietro + Isles 1st, then buyout DiPietro.

With the Isles getting better, that situation is more and more acceptable for the Isles. But a bit least interesting for Montreal.

No way would Molson want to do that.

Damn this is interesting. Would Molson be interested to bite? Still $24M over 16 years - that's a lot of money for a 1st.

Any team with PP problems might pick him. If not for next year,
I'd think he'd be picked easily. And he can most likely be bought out
this summer, so he's a "sort of, kinda" rental.

But if he clears, the habs still have options. They could certainly
take some of his cap hit, and I think actual salary, and trade him to
someone that needs PP help. In that scenario we could maybe add
a 5th round pick. TT is lethal in the 5th round.

Why not? We'd get a very good 1st Pick, which may guarantee more playoff games and profit than (DiPietro - Kaberle) difference would cost him.

Shame it had to go this way. I still think he'd help us win game due to his skills on the puck and on the PP.

If Komi or Jussi Jokinen don't get claimed I wouldn't be surprised if Kabs doesn't either.

Since he'd be paying something like $10-20M for nothing.

I might be the only person who somewhat liked Kaberle minus his contract. He put up some decent numbers and was solid on the PP.

I'm not necessarily against the move, but who knows - he may become an important piece come playoff time with injuries on the back-end bound to happen.

He'd be paying 10-20M$ for a draft pick that might make his team a dominant one in the NHL. When you generate more than 2M$ of revenue at every home playoff games; the extra 7-8 NHL series that draft pick might give you may turn into (3x2M$)*7 --> 42M$ extra revenus. Also, playoff games are the cheapest for owners since they don't pay full salaries to the players.

Plus derivatives like jersey sales.

Yes. There is also the creative option of trading him for someone
else's problem. After all, that problem contract might fit our needs
better.

And for any Douglas Adams fans.... we'd acquire an SEP field.
That way everyone could disappear from sight, and sneak to the net,
like Markov.
