@thekapman: Isles D Lubomir Visnovsky signs 2 yr extension. Before ext. sources confirm Hawks + Isles had talks for a multi player deal including him.

And a bit irritating. Visnovsky would be a nice pickup, no doubt, but that's not the area that Bowman needs to be focusing on.

Maybe he would be promoting Oduya to 2C?

Wonder about Brad Boyes from Isles

Boyes could slot in as 2nd line LW and put Sharp back in his place

Seems to be having best year in sometime

I do not want to give up more than a midtier spec for him. He's been riding shotgun with Tavares all year.

Just like Stalberg riding Toews coattails on left wing last season.

Vishnosky has a big shot right? Asset on the PP?

And that will factor into his negotiations for a new deal. We're not talking about giving up assets for Stalberg though, we're talking about giving up assets for Brad Boyes, who has been pretty bad for the last few years and is playing for a new contract. Wouldn't want him in our top 6 if we need to give up any significant assets. NYI aren't real trade partners at this point because they're in the playoff race.

Right, outside of Leddy, they have nobody at the point that's dangerous.

With Sabres issues anyone think Stan should kick tires on Miller and see what value cost would be?

I am starting to get uneasy again about our G situation... I dont want Crawford/Emery to Rex Grossman this team

Miller can be one of the best when things go well... it's when they don't that makes me worry about what goes on between his ears. He comes across as a selfish player to me, but that said, if the price tag was reasonable I'd give him a shot. I doubt it would be for a reasonable cost however.

Yes, but the Hawks have many problems on their PP and that's just one of them.

I guess if Bowman's going to fail to acquire a #2C yet again, Visnovsky would be fine. Better to fix something than nothing at all, even if it's not the most pressing issue.

(Of course, this is immaterial since Visnovsky was extended).

I've been wondering the same thing for a while. Miller is done in BUF. We get him at a low market price and resign him to a 2-3 year deal. I think he'd rebound to near 2010 form with our D depth. Ship them Crow + Pirri + Olsen and get back Miller and Hecht. Crow gives them a stop-gap in net and Enroth splits with him.

There are certain dynamics that Bowman can't control. The fact that 1 of the 2C's available is in the west is a big one. Roy and Ribeiro make up the 2C market. Ribeiro will likely resign with Washington, and we know what Dallas wants in all deals with Chicago, Saad.

We don't know which centers are available, but I have no doubt the list is longer than two names. And why restrict it to the West alone?

Nah, 3 years in and the hole's still there - at this point I fully expect nothing to change. Excuses run out when you have had this much time to fix it.

But the complaining hardly matters. Bowman is who he is. Hopefully the Hawks can improve something at the deadline, because they certainly do have a shot at the Cup and would be well-suited to do anything they can to improve their chances still further. We'll see.

And how exactly do you make room for Miller's cap hit next year? That extra 4 mil means the Hawks would only have around 300k in cap space next year. Even if they buyout Olesz and Monty that is only 6 mil in cap space to fill 7 holes. Leddy will get a bare minimum of 2 million of that. Leaving the Hawks with 4 million in cap space to fill 6 holes. The Hawks could try to dump Frolik without taking salary back, but that still only leaves 6.5 mill for 7 holes.

They have an internal solution, his name is Sharp, Patrick. They could plug the LW problem easier than the Center problem. Centers are a premium in the NHL, especially top 6 centers. For a player that has the 'A' on his chest, he should be stepping up to Q saying "let me center the 2nd line for the better of the team"

Hey, I don't disagree. Sharp should have been playing there last year. But clearly he's not going to - something happened behind the scenes, that's the only explanation.

A 2nd and a 5th for Leopold. Man, that Oduya trade looks better all the time.

The Buffalo Sabres ripped off the Saint Louis Blues, who look to be in desperation mode.
