Canucks will have $6m to spend if they hold off on making moves until the trade deadline. If they move Malhotra to LTIR then they'll have $8.5m.
And there's no reason to do it now unless Gillis is planning on using that cap space allowance.

Good, hopefully Gillis can utilize that extra cap room.

I know this might sound ridiculous, but I kinda wanna lose the next two games so the win streak does not mask this "above average" team.

We need deals, at least two

Roy is a very good defensive player. The Stars brought him in specifically so they could give Benn increased offensive zone starts. Roy was down around 46% last I checked.

Great news about higbot! One of my fav players on the team! He's the type of player you need in the playoffs. Gritty, good on the wall, versatile and can score.

Plz gm mg

I doubt Lapierre goes elsewhere... Runs the risk of not getting the quality of minutes he does here and AV loves him. Have to remember he was almost out of the league when we picked him up. And he loves big markets.

Additionally, our center depth is terrible - would suck to see him walk with noa viable replacements.

I gotta say, the poll results from this thread are surprising. I thought we were a smart fan base, yet more than half of us think we need a 3rd line center more than a top 6 scorer

No. It will mean absolutely nothing. Yes, we're winning, but any GM with a brain knows this team needs assistance down the line.

Pretty standard stuff for an educated hockey fan, teams are built down the middle.

To satisfy everyone: how about we bring in an offensive center? If Tampa would be willing to withhold some salary I would be interested in Vinny Lecavalier.

Your opinion of smart is different than some other people obviously.
In my eyes, a top 6 forward is a "want" and not a "need".

Schroeder isn't capable of being the full time 3rd line center yet.
In the Canucks last game against Colorado, his line had some serious problems.

He's not good at faceoffs, he isn't consistent, and there's no knowing how he'll perform in the playoffs as a young, inexperienced player.

There is no way I see Tampa retaining part of that huge contract, just like I don't see the Canucks retaining part of Luongo's contract.

We have wingers that can score, what we don't have is anyone good enough to get/keep possession and make something happen for those wingers outside of Hank.

Hansen and Higgins can both score... no wingers score consistently playing with Malhotra or Pahlsson.

offensive center would be ideal. the way I see it from most important to least important.

Top 6 center
Top 6 winger
right handed PP QB
3rd liner center

He's our Dan Cleary. He's been around enough to know what's important and is appreciative of what this team offers and has done for his career. I expect the Canucks to also appreciate what he does and sign him to a very fair both ways. It's clearly Gillis strength as GM.

if we had a competent 2nd line this would not be any issue. a 3rd line of Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen will cause mismatches in the Canucks favour IMO if the 2nd line is pulling it's weight.
