Oduya's better as an actual defenseman.

Applauding Darcy for this move. We can definitely grab a good prospect in this year's draft with that 2nd rounder.

Leopold had two pretty solid seasons for us, and he was starting to show signs of life again in recent weeks. I hope he finds his game again in St. Louis.

Thanks for your service to the Sabres, and good luck, Mr. Leopold.

I love Twitter, the place where half the people don't get the concept of a UFA, don't see the value in a draft pick, and think Leopold was the Sabres top defenseman. Oy.

So does Regier get credit for this? Or does the anti Regier crowd spin a web of excuses and stretched truths

Granted, overall, Regier should be fired, but this is a fair deal

He gets credit when it's due...always. It's due for this kind of deal

Good post, and you're right. The Blues are a good fit for him. He won't be forced into too many minutes and he will have strong defensive players around him.

Reaction on this board has been 90%+ positive. It was a good trade value wise. I question Regier's ability as an architect, but it's hard to question the value he pulls out of trades.

To the extent he got market value? I guess. Did people think Leo wouldn't net at least a 2nd??

Honestly, I don't see St. Louis making the playoffs. 3 picks in the first 45

Once Doug Murray brought back two seconds, there was no way Leo wasn't going to return at least one. Now to hope Regehr a.) waives his NMC, and b.) brings back even more than the aforementioned pair of traded D-men.

The second second for Murray is conditional on him resigning with the Pens, which means SJ may never even see it. In that case, it's one second-round pick, assuredly closer to 60 than the one from St. Louis. In that case, Leopold may have netted even more value.

It's a 3rd if he doesn't re-sign with PIT.

He is now. IIRC, he was playing brutally when he was traded.

Nope. For draft pick purposes losing in the second round is the same as losing in the first round.

It goes:
30--SC Winner
29--SC Runner up
27-28--Conference Final Runners up (by points)

Then come any leftover division winners (by points) who got eliminated in the first 2 rounds.

And finally all the other playoff teams (by points) eliminated in the first 2 rounds.

I'm a moderate Darcy supporter, but I frankly don't see how he deserves much credit for this trade. He got what's probably market value for a player who's unnecessary to the team for the remainder of this season and wouldn't have been back next year.

It seems we have only 6 healthy dmen up now with Sulzer out for the year...Do we bring up McNabb finally?Has he improved from his bad form this season?

McNabb has improved lately, but he's hurt and out for 4 weeks. So he's no longer a call-up candidate.

Ehrhoff
Sekera
Myers
Regehr
Weber
Pysyk
Pardy

If we need to dig deeper, then I have no idea who'd be next in line. Biega? Crawford? MacKenzie?
