Kaberle isn't the player he once was. Harsh but the truth of the matter. He's not a good skater, not a good passer, not good on defence. If were talking about 27 year old Kaberle its a different story, but his best days are long gone. He's too soft, doesn't hit, doesn't fit in with this team and i really don't like his attitude/energy. Plays like a pushover and gets demoralized soon as the team starts losing. Do not want him, not even for the marlies.

No question he is playing better, and his trade value is so meager, keeping him is a moot point. Also he is physically mature enough to potentially make the jump and contribute right away, so dodgy AHL stats don't mean anything. A role of the dice but also potentially ready to help them right away.
He came to the camp without much practice and work since he was still healing if I recall. I've seen him couple of times and I've always come back impressed. Patience is the best thing for this guy who's a giant although gentle, he's extremely skilled and has picked ups his puck coverage and cycle work. I think we treat him the same way we treated Kadri, give him third line work and then push him up slowly and steadily.

Are we really talking about adding Kaberle? Seriously? How about we see if Darcy Tucker is in game shape while we're at it. If Kaberle made no money then maybe, but the caps going down and we'll have to pony up new contracts for guys like Bozak, Kadri, Franson, Gunnarsson, and MacArthur, or for their replacements if they aren't brought back next year. Most of those guys will get hefty raises too, so we shouldn't be throwing cash like that at Kaberle just so we can have a reunion. We just sent Komisarek down, do we need another guy who'll be in the same position? Nope.

I'd take Kaberle as is, unless you can give me a veteran stay at home defender for about the same pay and term that's available for few assets. In any case, we need to spend our excess on Defense. Connolly and Lombardi are off of the books next year.

See I don't know if I'd be happy getting a 2nd and a 5th for Liles from a team like the Blues

Yeah, fair price paid. They should have coughed up a little more and tried to get RR. Russel & Redden are garbage, I bet St Louis grabs another NHL quality D.

Mclovin has come up with a theory. Mclovin thinks that if we trade Gardiner for Couturier, Burke will end up not looking that bad for the Kessel trade. Here's why.

Burke stole us Lupul in the Beauchemin trade. Mclovin and the rest of the leaf fans can pretend that this was a straight swap, and Gardiner was just gravy.

If we trade Gardiner for Couturier, it would be like we had kept our 2011 1st round pick, since chances are we would've chosen Couturier over Hamilton anyways (we badly needed a centre)

The fact that Burke was able to fleece Anaheim for Gardiner and trade it for the 8th overall pick in 2011 means that the Kessel trade ends up looking like Kessel straight up for Seguin, which is far more plausible.

Therefore, Burke looks less like a villain and more so a hero when he made that deal.

I'd be happy getting that for Kostka

Leopolds an upcoming UFA. Liles still has a couple years on his contract left.
He'd get a bit more imo.

Where are the Gards for Couturier talks coming from?

There have been literally no rumours of this sort, have there?

I don't think so. Just fan speculation. But it does make a lot of sense. Phillys D is not very good. Its aging, and its extremely slow.

We're all aware of our C situation. Couts would be a fantastic addition.

Oh I totally agree. But I don't really think an OFD is what they're looking for.

I'd do Gards + 2nd for Couturier but not much more.

Well they could reunite the Gardiner- Schenn pairing that worked somewhat here. It would be a pairing that could be the future of their d core. Apparently Schenns doing ok there.

False premise.

Kadri/Seguin,2 drafted Cs, they would have gone for the rare right handed shot D man to go with their young lefty in Schenn.

Couturier better develop into a sweet player if we are trading Gardiner for him.

I dunno. Most of their Dmen are slow and cant skate the puck. It kills their transition game. They have no one like Gards.

Kessel + for Kane

I understand this would never happen but hey a man can dream. What would it take to make this happen for the leafs? I also understand that trading away assets isn't the greatest idea for a rebuilding team.

My suggestion:
To Chicago
Phil Kessel
2nd Round Pick
Clarke McCarthur

To Toronto:
Patrick Kane

Why? More of a sideways move.

Patrick Kane is a bit better than Kessel but he's just as soft as Kessel and not that good defensively...people will bash him just like they bash Kessel.
