Could be. Seems a little more than coincidental that we had 2 or 3 scouts at there last game and at least one scout at their last few games.

Seems to me that his familiarity with the Habs and Bergevins with the Hawks, that they're natural trading partners. Add to that the net of scouts watching each others games and it seems like more than just advanced scouting for UFAs.

Doesn't mean they will trade but to say its a non issue, I think would be understating his presence.

Add Torres to that fourth line. We would than have some added protection and toughness that will keep the opposition honest.

It's more likely Chicago trades with NYR than Montreal.

The Sharks appear to be moving closer towards trading left wing Ryane Clowe.

A source has informed CSNCalifornia.com that the Sharks have approached Clowe’s agent about the possibility of waiving his no-trade clause, and a deal could happen as soon as Sunday.

Boston, Montreal and the New York Rangers appear to be the most likely destinations. Sharks director of pro scouting John Ferguson, Jr. was in Philadelphia for the Bruins-Flyers game on Saturday afternoon. He flew to Montreal for the Canadiens-Rangers game later that day, according to RDS’ Ren Lavoie.

Guys why do we need Ryane Clowe? He hasn't been the same since he was KRONWALLED. I think we need a defenseman more than another forward. Jay Bouwmeester would fit well with our style, he can skate and move the puck. Got size 6'4" 220lbs.

If we give up a 1st for Clowe....

Thankfully, Bergevin appears smarter than that.

Yeah, I don't think Bergy is willing to pay a lot. At least I hope so.

However, if he can re-sign him for fairly cheap I'll have less of a problem depending on what is given.

We would be better off improving this team in the offseason.
I for one dont want to see any knee jerk trades at or before the deadline.

We need him to prevent Boston from getting him.

Few more days will know.
And that's what we sometimes forget when it comes to Ryane Clowe: he has a NTC and like Iginla, he can chose where he wants to go. Here's hoping that his connection with Ryder (and Gorges) will make him chose the Habs.

What I mean is that the needs you want to cover is already covered, you just got to be patient.

Every area is covered ib Montreal except 2.

1) a big crease clearing defensmen

2) a heavyweight enforcer to keep teams in check and give us that spark we sometimes need against the tougher teams in oyt division.

That-is-all. We have 3 good offensive lines, we don't need more offense.
Clowe is not like Bourque, as he drops the gloves... quite often. And while he can also play hockey (like Prust), he is much bigger than Prust and would therefore be able to match-up against bigger opponents like Lucic and company.

The more I think about it, the more I'm hoping that Bergevin can make it happen. I'd be thrilled.

I hear all this Clowe stuff and that the asking price starts with a 1st, and Im not interested. Even if we are picking late, we have an awesome scout in TT, we have what might be a very deep draft, comparisons to 2003 are being made ( could be wrong of course ), we have lots of picks so we might even be able to move up a few spots for one of our 2nds. Im a bit calmed because MB seems like a guy with a big picture plan and is focused on getting the pieces he thinks he needs to build a year in year out contender and not make short sighted moves. Remember, MB came into a bottom team and I think when you hire a guy to be the GM of a team like that you must give him 4-5 years to realize his vision. If that is the case, then some of the players MB picks in his first couple of drafts have a real chance of making the team before that 5 years is up. So with so many high round picks in such a deep draft and with an ace of a head scout, I dont see why we would trade either our 1st or Calgarys 2nd. If the price for Clowe is more like our 2nd, well, okay, but that doesnt appear to be the case. Hopefully in a couple of years we can be like Pittsburgh and be able to give up picks and prospects to go for the Cup, I just think that even with how well this team has done, we shouldnt give up major assets like a 1st or near 1st for a rental.

Since you guys love to draw conclusions based on where scouts are:

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks
On the Clowe front: BOS, but not MON on scouts list tonight. Both teams watched #SJSharks vs. DET. Also here: Mike Gillis, Canucks GM.

if that report is true, i don't see a bubble team like NYR trading for him so it's B or Habs..but why the heck do the b's need him? they have enough size? they totally lack speed and skill - outside the bergeron/seguin/marchand line. makes no sense. wilson trying to create bidding war between habs/B's

I see Ryan Clowe is becoming this year's internet Habfan's saveur du jour a la Jokinen (couple of years ago).

So you're saying that Renauld Lavoie didn't see John Ferguson Jr?

After saying this 2 weeks ago, it would be a joke:

http://www.lapresse.ca/debats/chroni...er-lavenir.php

- Bergevin: ''We will not mortgage the future to add a rental.''

- Bergevin: ''Renting players at the end of a season is a dangerous game. No one is going to give you a gift. And as soon as 1 team moves, the prices skyrocket. You have to stay calm, cool and collected. Respect the plan in place. I am convinced our fans, who want to see us win as much as we want to win, would not be happy if we have to start from scratch next season. We are having success. We have good youngsters on our team. We have prospects in the pipeline. We have draft picks. We have the tools to build a solid future. And I will not mortgage that future.''

I expect Boston to overpay for Clowe, something like Koko and their 1st for Clowe and a mid pick.

Clowe has a full no trade clause,so even if Sharks want to send him to Boston,Clowe can say no,i wanna go to Montreal or im not waiving my ntc....so they would have to take what habs are offering or lose him as ufa....will soon see how much Clowe wants to be a hab....lol

If Clowe says i want Montreal only, that drives the price down huge.

I think Yannick Webber and something else...
