Any interest in Kaberle now that Martin and Letang are out? He's free on waivers. If he doesn't work out he would be a simple buy out in the summer. In the meantime he could help run the powerplay and provide some depth on D.

I was gonna suggest that, but I know I'd get ripped for it...he sucks...

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby lost several teeth and needed oral surgery after he was hit in the mouth with a puck during a 2-0 victory against the New York Islanders on Saturday.

Coach Dan Bylsma wasn’t sure if the injury affected Crosby’s jaw and didn’t know if he would miss any more time. Pittsburgh, which has won a league-high 15 straight games and is within two wins of the NHL record by Mario Lemieux and the 1992-93 Penguins, hosts Buffalo on Tuesday.

“I just know he had some issues with his teeth,” Bylsma said. “Just from the replay I know that.”

So basically just a derivation of what we already heard... great.

On Kaberle, we're kind of running out of powerplay spots all of a sudden.

I doubt we will hear anything new until Monday since tomorrow is an off day/holiday. All we know right now is that he had some teeth go flying and needed surgery because of it.

I got bored so i blew up this gif and it's a pretty severe impact to what looks like the lower mandible. I can see the mouthguard plop out and what looks like some teeth.

Anywho. Feel free to save the gif and blow it up in your pic editor if you're bored like me.

Nothing definitive yet, but here are some snippets from the local papers. Both of these stories were most recently updated around midnight.

Molinari
Quote:
There was no immediate word on any additional injuries -- facial fractures or a concussion, for example -- although fixing his teeth got priority over examinations for any other medical concerns.
Remaining in the hospital overnight was a possibility, although a close acquaintance said, "He will be OK."

Crosby lost several teeth after a sailing puck — off the stick blade of defenseman Brooks Orpik — caught him flush early in the first period. He crumpled to the ice, left with a blood-stained white towel pressed covering his lips and was scheduled for oral surgery later Saturday, coach Dan Bylsma said.

There were no signs of concussion symptoms, and Crosby's injury was mostly a teeth issue, multiple sources said.

Medical people, from nurses to doctors, run in my family. And I can tell you that the treatment is different depending on who you are to a degree. Meaning if you are someone like Crosby, you can stay the extra night no problem. I would not read much into that.

Obviously concussion symptoms can surface at any time seemingly but what was encouraging to me about that injury today was how quickly Sid got up after being hit by that puck. He skated off in his own power and did not look to be in any distress aside from the mouth issue.

When he got hit by Steckel and Hedman he was very clearly in distress immediately.

But again, symptoms don't always surface right away. Fortunately we have two days off now. If he feels alright the next two days you'd think there's a good chance he's back in there Tuesday.

I wouldn't mind him sitting out a couple of games just as a precaution. I'd hate to see him lose ground in the scoring race, but IMO as long as he doesn't miss more than like 3-5 games he's got that scoring title in the bag. In any case his health is the most important thing regardless of my selfish desires as a fan. Damn will I be pissed if he's out for any length of time and loses out on some well deserved recognition though.

As long as its not concussion related i wouldn't mind seeing Sid miss a couple weeks, Geno has been good but hes not at last years level, If Sid's out maybe that gets Malkin going we need both those guys at the top of there game going into the playoffs.

I dont really think it matters if sid/letang are out for a week. Bylsma would have scratched them and malkin on alternating dates for rest anyways, plus the worst that will happen is our streak ends and we finish in 2nd place in our conference.

I really doubt it's concussion related at all. Broken jaw would be a bigger concern to me.

I'd rather we acquire Ryan Whitney from the Oilers.

Wouldn't that sort of thing be recognizable immediately? I'd think the old adage of no news is good news when it comes to this injury. I think if he had a broken jaw and was going to be out any length of time because of that we'd know about it immediately.

Obviously the concussion issue is murkier because it's not always immediately known if a guy has one or not.

I'm not worried. Orpik is the John Leclair of the Peguins.

If there's a bright side to this, I hope his jaw is sore for awhile and has trouble speaking so all the media will leave him the **** alone.

To all the guys who are speculating about a possible concussion, I would doubt that there is one because there is no direct blow to the head that would cause the head to snap back at the velocity it would for the brain to make contact with the skull. The puck hit him in the mouth, its pretty hard to suffer a concussion from that, of course he'll have headaches, but not due to a concussion.
