People are comparing this draft to 2003, okay, say thats right. In the secound round of 2003 there were 5 top players selected ( really unusual for a 2nd round ), Loui Eriksson, Patrice Bergeron, Shea Weber, David Backes and Jimmy Howard. So 5 of 30, or 17 % of 2nd rounders became above average players. We have 3 2nd round picks, so just on numbers they would give us a 50% chance at a top player. Throw in a late 1st and maybe the odds are 70%. TT is above average in selecting so maybe our odds go to 80-90%. I know we are salivating at the thought of TT having 4 top 60 picks and almost assume hell hit a couple of home runs, but thats not reality. Being above average in picking just means that your right say 30 times out of a hundred versus the average of 22, your still more wrong than right. We had 2 2nd round picks in 2003, Urqhuart and Lappiere. We need to be very careful before we start trading top round picks for rentals because even TT needs all the chances he can get, and think about the impact of even 1 guy out of those 4 turning into a Weber or Backes etc.

You'd take Tanguay ahead of Gionta?

San Jose is going to get a 1st round pick for Clowe. I don't see any way that they don't. I don't like the idea of trading a 1st round pick and a prospect(s), likely package needed, for a rental that has 0 goals.

You have a point If we are to trade a first round pick and prospect(s) it should be for Jbow That would really help our defense.

Hard to believe Bouwmeester has never played a single playoff game.

Nathan Horton anybody?

He's UFA next season and Boston had him for dirt cheap at 4M$ last year. Would it be possible to acquire him once he hits the market? Or would you do a package deal to get him right away(though Boston wouldn't deal him to a rival)? Or are you simply not interested in him? Apparently, they're not happy with his play and wouldn't mind him off their team.

People have been complaining this team is weak and small on the wings, which is true. He would be a great addition to the line-up. Not only that but he can drop the gloves and is a rugged physical presence. Ryder is UFA at the end of the season, would it be better to try to sign Horton instead?

Pleks-Ryder has found chemistry and you want to break it up? Why fix something that isnt broken?

I don't want to break them up, Ryder is UFA next year. Everyone constantly says this team needs size and physicality on the wings, Horton is exactly that. I also don't think they'll deal him but he is UFA and some of them don't expect him to come back.

Who the hell cares what he looks like? The Bruins had him for 4M$ for a few years. That's a fair price for that kind of player. He might even be acquired for less as he was viewed as better in his Florida days.

Horton won't play physical if/when he leaves the Bruins.

I like Horton a lot, but I'd rather keep Ryder. Ryder should be cheaper (especially if they start talking extension now) than Horton - and Plekanec finally has chemistry with someone.

Pleks would probably quit hockey if we took away the only good winger we've gave him in years.

Horton is garbage. There are better players out there. Jesus christ, again, of all people man.

He isn't playing physical now when he's with the Bruins. Horton has been terrible this season, Bruins fans can't get rid of him quick enough.

DD is the player I would move. I'm not sure if his value is greater or less with his extension.
But give me Talbot straight up and I don't blink an eye. We probably have to get a Francophone player for him. LOL... But it would open up a ton of line combo options... Proven playoff guy with grit. MT surely a fan. I like many see only defensive liability with DD. He has to go before Gio...

If we trade for anyone, it should be a #6 for insurance in the case Raph isn't ready.

When Bourque returns, our line-up looks like;

Ryder - Plekanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Gallagher
Galchenyuk - Eller - Bourque
Prust - Halpern - Moen

There really isn't much room for improvement there. Even if we suffer an injury, Prust moves up to the 3rd line and we have Armstrong come in.

On defense, there is lots of room to fit a solid, reliable bottom pairing guy or a even a guy with a little offensive upside. If Raph isn't ready, I very much doubt we're going with a rookie.

I could see with Bergevin parting with a 2nd rounder to acquire a solid defenseman (Regehr, Whitney, Babchuk, etc). Or paying a bit more for a guy like Smid or Fistric.

That's about all I see us doing. There's just no room otherwise, unless you want to bench Galchenyuk.
