If he's signed (16M/4y), I don't see a problem here. He's still a 40 pts player without a doubt + you know what.

When Bourque returns, our line-up looks like;

Ryder - Plekanec - Gionta
Pacioretty - Desharnais - Gallagher
Galchenyuk - Eller - Bourque
Prust - Halpern - Moen

There really isn't much room for improvement there. Even if we suffer an injury, Prust moves up to the 3rd line and we have Armstrong come in.

On defense, there is lots of room to fit a solid, reliable bottom pairing guy or a even a guy with a little offensive upside. If Raph isn't ready, I very much doubt we're going with a rookie.

I could see with Bergevin parting with a 2nd rounder to acquire a solid defenseman (Regehr, Whitney, Babchuk, etc). Or paying a bit more for a guy like Smid or Fistric.

That's about all I see us doing. There's just no room otherwise, unless you want to bench Galchenyuk.
I see those top two lines and cringe about the playoffs. They'll get creamed.

For a GM who says a team is built from the draft, I don't see MB giving up a first at all. Maybe a 2nd and a deeper prospect... but not the first, even if it might be a low first.

Consensus is: we want a crease clearer.

Can Clowe skate and pivot backwards?

You want to sign a guy out of his prime who's production has fallen the last 2 years to a 4 year deal for a 4million cap hit at the price of a good prospect and a 1st in a draft that can help cement our future... Gainey please delete this account we don't want you here!!

If Clowe is worth $4M per year, do you pay Ryder $10M?

Yeah!! Lets trade a 1st rounder for Clowe.

He'll look good on our 4th line with Halpern and Prust when Bourque is back from his injury.

Armstron, Moen, Dumont and White will have a lot of fun on the pressbox.

Wtf? We wont trade for a top9 player except if we trade Bourque.

I'm in a bubble. I think the priority should be a bigger forward (who can score.. not just toughness) but I really think we need to get bigger at defense. Maybe wait till free agency period and sign back O'Byrne.

He won't sign for nothing, but it doesn't mean we should give him 4 years either.

If it's not 4, it's pretty close. Anyway, I won't even start comparing with Gionta...

I was thinking of O'Byrne, but if Tinordi is ready next year, as I believe he will be, and if Bouillon is #7, who gets moved? Diaz? Or do we wait till end of the year next year, and then make a decision about all three UFA - Markov, Diaz and Emelin? Personally I would extend Emelin after July 1st and let the other two go to the wire. As mentioned before I am ok with Markov on one-year deals at (diminishing) market value starting 14-15.

Clowe is not worth 4 million a year nor is he worth a high end pick. He's a 2nd liner at best who will likely depreciate to a 3rd liner in the future. 3 million a year would be a good deal for him, but that will never happen.

If it was one bad season you could say that but the year before his production fell by 17 points his production is going down and you guys wanna give him a 4 year contract that'll make him 4million why cause he's tough? If he continues like this a season without a goal will be the least of his worries. I wouldn't mind clowe as a free agent or a trade for a low price 3rd and a lesser prospect but regardless of that he gets MAX 3 years because the third contract year will be brutal

Yes, it's not fair to compare a top 20% NHL skater with an AHL skater. Or a guy with a cup ring and a 'C' on his jersey to a guy who never led his team to anything. Or a guy with 10 goals to one with zero.

We are pretty balanced in term of needs, I'd say. Let's just take the best trade opportunity that arise.

This Clowe-case is interesting indeed. Guy is hab-fan but im sure that Bruins will overpay heavily after that Iginla-fiasco I trust on Bergevin, no bidding wars please

Bourque is currently out with, what seems to be, a severe concussion. There's no guarantee he'll be back even before playoffs.

He could have a **** ring and I could not care less. That was almost 10 years ago. Gomez has a ring too. If only I knew that cup rings could differentiate a good player from a bad one, I could seriously debate with you.

If its a sign and trade then we definitely could be in the mix since MB said no to paying a high price for a rental. So, highprice for an extended Clowe ? MB has been sharp so far, hope this isnt his first gaff. Our 1st would be a high price to pay, Calgarys 2nd for that matter, and Im sure everybodys right in Clowe wanting like a 4 year deal for that $3.5M -$4.0M to agree to the trade.
