Not a bad offer to work with. I think Regier would ask for Sheahan (iirc he wanted him before the draft) and might push for another secondary piece from Detroit. I think he'd definitely look for a "conditional" based on whether or not Howard re-signs. Solid framework for a deal though.

Here's the offer:

Jake Gardiner

for

Thomas Vanek
My guess is they'd want Rielly instead of Gardiner and probably next years 1st since this years won't be all that great and there's a chance for Toronto to do worse next year.

Who knows though.

As far as Rielly goes, I guess its fair to ask for him but Gardiner and him are basically very similar and Gardiner is more NHL ready.

I'd like to keep Rielly though.

Jake Gardiner
Matt Frattin
Joe Colborne

for

Thomas Vanek

?

I'm down.

According to Regier he's listening to offers on every player on the roster. I doubt he feels like he needs to move Vanek, but it sounds like any Sabre is available for the right price.

We're not interested in trading Rielly.

Hamilton is the future of Boston D, he's already our second best defensemen behind Chara, our only decent puck carrying defenseman PC would have to be H**** to even think of trading him... Vanek has played only 1 full season in the last 5, .... no thank you.... vanek is an awesome goal scorer, would love him on the bruins but he's no Datsyuk,Stamko's etc

Go check where he ranks in goals league wide over the past 6 years then come back here. He's an elite goal scorer simple as that

It's a very rare that a true Blue Chip prospect is traded for a player, regardless of how good the player is.

Morgan Rielly is not going anywhere.

Still interested in Vanek though, and it can be made to work without him in the deal.

You're fooling yourself if you think Hamilton is worth Datsyuk or Stamkos straight up.

A. Vanek receives miniscule ice time compared to every other first line forward.

B. Second off Vanek has the 10th highest goals per game among ALL Active players. He averages 35 goals/82 games.

But Yeah go find a top 10 goal scorer for scraps?

It's funny you mention Hamilton and how he's so good already ( and Vanek isn't ?) But what you need to realize is is that he's a rookie dman. We had one too who actually wonte Calder and put up far more points then Hamilton has this year. Vanek is proven and has scored 142 goals the last 5 years while Hamilton has put up one good year so far. Myers hasn't exactly replicated his rookie production and there's no guarantee Hamilton will either.

Jake Gardiner
Matt Frattin
Joe Colborne

is the absolutely most that I'd go for, and even that will irk some Leafs fans. I'm still double minded about including Colborne.

He may return something like that, but I'm sure we can get it from a west team

Funny you should respond with that, I was thinking along the same lines. It would be a hard sell to DET I assume, but it would take a high bet to win Vanek, especially to a new division foe.

If Boston wants either Vanek or Pominville, its likely going to cost Subban, a pick and a roster player (cap reasons)

Vanek-Team??
i think, many teams will vanek for teh PP in the PO#s.
Just my biased opinion, but he is one of those few guys that really could push a team over the top for a cup run. The only concern would be staying healthy through the playoffs. The way the Sabres use him in front of the net at even strength and esp. on the PP he really takes a beating. Constant crosschecks to the back/side and slashes to the forearms / wrists.

I think it would take more than the Iginla deal. Not that he is the better player, but I think CGY was really hamstrung in dealing him and got really poor value IMO.

Yeah there are so many similarities between 29yo no-NMC Vanek and Darcy Regier compared with 35yo full NMC Iginla and Feaster.

I agree. You make some room by trading a guy like Peverley to Buffalo in the deal, he would not be the main pice, but he could make some valuable room under the cap for next year.

You let Horton and Ference walk in the offseason and fill their spots with rookies or UFAs who make $1 million or less and there is about enough room for Vanek.

Rask isn't going to get a heck of a lot more than he is getting this year and they can have Svedberg play if Khudobin wants too much money.

The question is what it would really cost to get Vanek.

Vanek+3rd for:

Subban, Spooner, 1st, Boychuk, Pev

That's a ton, and Boychuk and Pev for salary

(Basically that's like two 1st's, a 2nd, and two roster players)
