Mark Streit staying or going?

Isles are still trying to sign Streit to an extension. Before the Vis deal was reached, Streit was asking for 3 yrs/$10m. Vis got 2 yrs/$9.7m and a partial NMC yesterday.

I'm not sure how Vis new deal impacts Streit's deal. Will Streit demand a NMC for most of the 3 yrs? Isles have several young d-men, who should be ready for the NHL in the next 1-3 yrs. Is Snow willing to go 3 yrs ?

Newsday reported yesterday that there was progress in Streit's extension talks.
Isles are technically tied for 8th with the NYR, although the NYR have a game in hand. Both teams are 4 pts behind NJ in 7th place.

Point Blank reports there's plenty of interest.

I think he stays, he loves it here on LI and has expressed his desire to stay. Even though I'm not too keen on the third year he is seeking, I wouldn't mind it if he takes a modified NMC like Visnovsky took for his second year.

I don't see the isles moving streit unless they add another dman elsewhere. They are in the middle of a playoff race.

I'm all for him staying but the Islanders do need an upgrade on D next year. Too many goals against this season and it's not all Nabokovs fault. Right now we are looking at the same D for next season if Streit is signed. Maybe we can move Amac. He would be the most likely candidate because of the length of his contract. Haminics not going anywhere.

this is a great point...With Vis signed who does what striet does and probablly better and Donovan knocking on the door, we need a DEFENSIVE dman....

I'd give him three years to come to Colorado. Do you guys see Snow moving him if he doesn't extend or agree to an extension before the deadline?

If a deal is possible, think we could work out something?

Now that we have Visnovsky under contract, I don't mind as much if we trade him as before. I still prefer keeping him but if we get good offers, it could be possible now.. Still would prefer trading Carkner or something

What would you offer to outbid the other teams?

I feel like they offered him a contract similar to what he's got over two years with a NMC like Visnovsky got.

2 years, 4m per with a NMC up until the deadline of year 2 if they're out of contention.

I don't see Snow bending much from that, and I believe Streit will be traded if he doesn't accept.

I've no idea what Snow will do. I felt more confident in getting Streit signed before Vis got his new deal. Isles didn't have any players with a ntc or a nmc. Streit was also reportedly willing to take a $800,000 per season pay cut ($3.3m per).

Now, he and his agent have seen Vis sign for $4.7m and get a partial nmc.

Shane O'Brien, Calvin Pickard/Sami Aittokallio and a 2nd round pick?

I think it seems pretty fair for both teams.

If he doesnt stay, they'll be a pretty good market for him. Chicago for a #1 seems like a good option.

Is SOB really an upgrade on Brian Strait? Isles think highly enough of Strait, seeing him playing 2nd pairing mins, that they gave him a 3 yr extension.

MacDonald-Hamonic
Vis-Strait

Strait play on the right side even tough he's a LH d-man isn't that right? If that's teh case I don't see a fit for him on the Avs.

Sounds like he's regressed a lot. Is he not captain anymore?

He said many times that he wants a long contract (3/4 years). He would like to stay with the Isles but he's fine with going elsewhere to get that

I think Snow is probably looking for a 1st. It just depends on who is coming the Isles way anyway.

A bit better than Strait IMO but older.

Mac-Hamonic
Viz-O'Brien
Strait-Hickey/Carkner

Thats actually a pretty good D for next year.

Can't imagine they'd want one of our goalie prospects and selling short on them sounds like bad asset management on our part.

I was thinking a O'Brien or O'Byrne and 2nd type deal. O'Byrne would be the right handed shutdown guy they are interested in, just need to re-sign which shouldn't be too difficult, something in the 2-2.5 range for three years.

Streit's age and UFA status would prevent anyone from backing up the truck, but I might be willing to add a conditional pick in there if we re-signed him.

Would be a nice partner for EJ on our top pairing to bridge the gap with our young defenders.

If he can't be signed, I wouldn't mind moving him to Boston for their 1st.

It would give me a reason to cheer them on, when they butt heads with the Pens in the playoffs.

Deal him to the highest bidder, aquire a veteran shutdown defenseman, and bring up Donovan.

Offseason over.

Crucial time in contract talks between Streit and the Islanders. Wed's morning will be cut-off and his trade status determined.#tradecentre
