Pontus Åberg have signed a 2-year deal with FBK (SEL). Looking forward to watch him play.

Is there an NHL out-clause in there?

If not, that's kind of disappointing that he's still two years away from North America.

Not that I know of but I guess he will need two years in Sweden before he is ready even do most players use to put an NHL clause in their contract. FBK wanted to sign him for longer but they said it was no point seeing as if he would develop as expected he will be off anyway.

It'd be nice to get him used to NA ice sooner rather than later, but I agree 3 years is a pretty standard development time frame for a European playing pro. It worked out well for guys like Silfverberg

Quick update:

Cincy has clinched a playoff spot in the ECHL and won their division.

For the ATL fans Gwinnett won their division too.

-0-

Milwaukee is 1 pt from the playoffs minus their two top point scorers: Beck and Mueller, Oh and Bartley who's the #1 point scorer for defense.

Should be ready for rookie camp. He's at the age where he can play in the AHL instead of the WHL.

Milwaukee snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory tonight. They outplayed Toronto in all three periods and lost in the last minute of OT.

The ref was a total idiot in the the third period. He let Toronto get away with so much garbage that it looked like he must have been paid off. The Marlies specialized in hitting people from behind, usually after the whistle! Coach Dean Evason was screaming at the ref. He usually doesn't even speak to the ref during a game. This was followed by a ticky-tack call against Watson for hooking. A minute later he called Colborne of Toronto for slashing. It was really ticky-tack too. I wouldn't have called either penalty. He should have called somebody for punching Van Guilder in the back of the head 5 or 6 times or Holzer for slew footing Latta when he was skating down the slot with the puck. Latta crashed into the net. He just missed Drew MacIntyre. Toronto's other goalie left the game when Watson was taken down and crashed into him in the second period. There was no call on that one either.

OK NCAA bracket time.

#13 St. Cloud St. (Nick Oliver) vs. #4 Notre Dame.

#2 Minnesota (Zach Budish) vs. #15 Yale

NCAA guys who are in decision making mode.

Jimmy Vesey (Harvard)

Garrett Noonan (BU)

I'd love to see Budish and Vesey continue to progress. Noonan needs to stay at BU.

Drafted players don't need out-clauses, but there's a deadline(June 15) for any SEL player under contract. When/if the Preds sign him to his ELC that becomes the primary contract and in theory they could bring him over to the AHL right away. But there are some other rules too, like 2nd rounders and beyond having the option to refuse play in the AHL before they're 22.

In short though, another two years is reasonable for Pontus to stay in Sweden.

Go Badgers! They are playing their best hockey of the season right now. Milwaukee has 3 former Badgers on the roster.

Budish got a medical redshirt his sophomore year, so he has one more year of eligibility if he wants to use it. I think we'd want him out if he's anywhere close to ready to play pro hockey, though. Vesey should stay at Harvard for at least one more year, or at least until he isn't tailing off at the end of the season the way he did this season.

Zach Stepan is going to college next year. Going to be very interesting to see what he does in college vs what his cousin did in college. I think anything similar would be a positive.

I very selfishly hope Zach makes it because to have a member of one family on each team would mean alot to me

Milwaukee beat Chicago for the 8th time in ten games this season. I think all of those wins came against Matt Climie. The Admirals average a goal a period against him, versus his 2.39 GAA overall for about 40 games. The Wolves are out of a playoff spot at the moment. Milwaukee has the 7th spot and could get as high as 5th in their 10 remaining games. Watson had 2 goals on 5 shots, including a bankshot off a Wolve to give him 20 on the season. Bang had his 6th goal, Puustinen had his 12th. Milwaukee was playing 7 D-men again. Jeremy Smith is out for a week with a leg injury. The Admirals are looking for a real back-up instead the Junior player they had, Andrew D’Agostini.

Actually they just clinched the division last night. They already had a playoff spot clinched but wrapped the division with a win over Greenville.

Is it fair to say Hellberg is more or less the number one at this point, anyway?

Yes though Smith has looked a lot better in his last few games.

Until Smith injured his leg. Coach Evason expects him to be out for a week. The audio made it sound like he may be out the rest of the season. I could be wrong about that, but when the coach doesn't really know, it makes me wonder!

Milwaukee is 8-1-1 in their last ten games. That is 17 out of the last 20 possible points or .850 hockey. With a tight pack, you move up quickly playing that way. The Admirals have been successful against their own division, they just can't beat LEM.
