So Macwilliam's UND is up 1-0 on Yale in their quaterfinal matchup of the NCAA Frozen Four. Macwilliam has an assist on the goal, after scoring in the first game of the tournament.

Being that he's a captain of his team, strong defensive defenseman, a big guy, and obviously can produce a little bit, I can't see how we don't give this guy a contract. It would seem stupid to me to let him go.

All in due time IMO. He's a keeper and a good guy for sure. He should be in the AHL sooner than later.

His game is very much like Matt Greene. He will never have much offence, but is big, mean, and physical. I would be beyond shocked if the leafs don't sign him and let him finish off the year in the minors. He has a bright future in the NHL as a bottom-pairing defender.

UND lost, so they're season is done. We should know within the next couple of days if he's signing with the Leafs.

Rielly has the team's 3rd. worst +/-.

Didn't take him long to make his mark.

<3 Kenny Ryan.

Throwback player if there ever was one. 100% effort every shift, every night.

He's a beauty. Typical stay-at-home, defensive D-man, much in the mold of the Montreal version of Komi, or a Matt Greene. He's a good skater, big time hitter, and can contribute a little offensively. Major leadership type, as he was the Captain of his North Dakota team, and a smart kid.

Yep, nice goal too off a beauty feed from McKegg. The prospects continue to lead the charge offensively for the Marlies

Has anyone heard anything about Viktor Loov's play? I know he's a longshot to make the NHL but he seemed like an interesting boom/bust guy.

Previous Team: Camrose-AJHL

Major: Management

Talent Analysis

A character person both on and off the ice, MacWilliam has established a niche as a rugged defensive defender at the NCAA. A defenseman capable of delivering punishing hits, MacWilliam anticipates the play very well which aids to his ability to lay the body. He’s mobile for his style of game and is capable of moving the puck efficiently from the back-end. Limited offensively, he’ll need to translate his style of game to the pro level.

Future

A junior last season with North Dakota, MacWilliam will fulfill his four-years in the NCAA in the 2012-13 season.

Projection: Physical, stay-at-home defenseman.

Can't see us letting MacWilliam go. Seems like a good prospect and could at least be useful in the AHL.

I bet Burke probably loved this kid.

I've heard nothing of the guy other than one of the Swedish posters on the prospects board said he's looked "solid" in the Allsvenskan

Too bad, I'm intrigued by him too.

I've been a MacWilliam fan since his sophomore season.

Hope we get him signed

Rumour has it, this following clean open ice hit resulted in a Broken clavicle, bruised lungs, bruised ribs, and separation of sternum

There's no way he doesn't get signed.

I also hope we hang on to Knodel when the time comes. He's progressed nicely as well.

I can't seem to find a source that sorts NCAA stats by defencemen only, but the highest goal output I could find from a defenceman this year is 14 by Mike Boivin on Colorado, so Knodel's 10 goal output this year is fairly impressive.

38 GP 10 G 11 A is certainly a step up from 37 GP 3 G 9 A last year, not to mention having redshirted his freshman year (still curious if he can thus play 5 seasons at New Hampshire without the Leafs having to sign him then?). He appeared to have worked himself onto NH's first pairing by the end of the year too.

The brief clips I've seen of him suggest the skating issues you'd expect of a 6'6 225lb player, but such players can occasionally surprise.
