What do you think of the proposal deal?
Nicklas Grossman is pretty much the perfect comparison with regard to the stats mentioned, and he's at 3.5M.

How about 3.65M over 5 years?

I don't see him taking much of a discount, but he wants to stay. And the Oilers need him.

Get it done.

I'm hoping he gets 4x$3.5. It'll probably be a bit higher

4 years at 3.5-4 million a season. I'd even be okay with overpaying him a bit (4-4.5 mil) for longer term considering how much he brings to the team.

I guess most top defensive d-men must be overpaid then. There are a lot of shut down guys getting 4+.

I'm hoping its $3.5M over 4 or 5 years, but I'd have no problem with $4M.

$4M is likely a win for Smid. But I'd have no real problem with him there. Smid is definitely a core player and should be signed 5+ years.

My understanding is that a Ladislav Smid extension is imminent, but that the cap hit will be under $4 million per season. #Oilers
Don't have a problem with that.

Under 4 mill will be very good. Has been a lone bright spot on D for a while anyways (now they have Schultz)

That's probably the closest comparison. Could stomach that, but would be happier with something closer to 3.5m.

I still think 5 years 18 mil (3.6 per) sounds right.

I'm hoping for 3.5-3.75ish... 4m is a lot for a pure defensive dman but I guess with the position the Oilers are in they might have to overpay to keep him around

Everyone seems to agree between $3.5 and $4 million so he'll probably end up closer to $4.5....
