BC was eliminated, but Matheson was great. He got props from Bucigross and Melrose during the broadcast a couple times. A couple more years of college seasoning and this kid is going to be a real beaut.

Wow... That would be some surprise to me if they brought up Matheson already. Excting, but surprising.

Watching Matheson is a treat. He's got some super offensive skill and good skating ability. In many ways (including the red hair) he reminds me of Brian Campbell. I find it hard to believe he'd be ready for the NHL right now, but i'd love for him to get some time in San Antonio.

He's pretty smart, so I can see why they think he's ready... I mean, he seems to play fairly physical when I watch him. I can't imagine he's much smaller then Brian Campbell.

Some might even say Matheson's 1st year of college hockey blew expectations out of the water.

Coming into BC as a freshman..

He lead d-man with 25 pts and 8 goals in 36 games. Lead d-man in PIMs and ice time too. I think he should return for another year of college hockey and try to duplicate that production if not produce eve more. Just to prove it wasn't a fluke.

And cut those PIMs way down.

Definitely, he had a stellar freshman campaign. I think staying in college is best for him, bringing him up this soon seems a bit hasty, but who knows.

I don't think it was a fluke, this kid excels in every single aspect of the game. He has poise and IQ that you just can't teach. When he fills out, he's gonna be a freaking beast.

Matheson is a good NHL prospect, but you're getting carried away if you think he's NHL ready. The word beast is perhaps the most over-used word in hockey. Some seriously ridiculously hyperbole.

If he was from Sweden/Finland/Russia you would be drooling

You do realise i find patriotism and nationalism fundamentally flawed. Of course, any sense of realism must be averted by branding somebody negativally biased. You'll find hype rarely meets the substance, a concept perhaps one day you'll understand.

Isn't Matheson specifically playing NCAA hockey so he could get his college education? I'm fairly certain he gave that reasoning last year. That he had been planning to go to BC for a while instead of the other options available to him because he wanted a degree. I'd be surprised if he leaves college.

Bjugstad I think is going to San Antonio. GR tweeted he thought so as well.

Perhaps you'll understand the concept of regional bias then, no fundamental flaws for you there right? One day you'll understand the realism that European players still don't hold a handle candle to North American ones with the exception of few. You go head over heels for every soft Euro, but if someone says something good about a North American prospect you turn to "realism" lol

I'd say Bjugstad would jump right to FLA. If the promise and opportunity for Matheson is in the NHL right away (ie FLA telling him he has a legit chance of making the team in the fall), then I think Matheson could be convinced to sign. I wonder what FLA is telling him.

Matheson looked great at times, but defensively would be a huge liability as a pro right now. Needs another year in college, then probably a full year in the AHL IMO. He's fast and very good offensively, but needs some more polishing defensively. He falls down too easily, is sometimes out of position, and tries to make no look passes that can go very wrong. I expect him to come back to BC next year and be the best offensive defenseman in the country as a sophomore.

Against the Attack over the weekend Trocheck was slowed a bit with only 1 assist in two games. The series is tied at 1-1. Hopefully he can pick it back up for the Whalers.
