Well, I guess cherry picking works for you. Ignore the likes of Edmonton and the Islanders, who are still nowhere, and also ignore the likes of Vancouver, Boston or even the Devils, who did not have to tank to be constant contenders.
Boston had Toronto tank for them.
Edit: Boston was also bad around the lockout. Starting in 99: DNQ, DNQ, out 1st round, out 1st round, out 1st round, DNQ, DNQ.

Why do people think he is faking the injury??? He has a full no trade clause. If he doesn't want to be trade, he doesn't have to be. He got hurt. It sucks. But he is not faking it.
Holmgren: "Hey, Dan, do you have a minute?"
Brière: "Paul, we've been through this 20 times since yesterday. I don't want to go anywhere. My kids are comfortable and doing well in school and I love the Flyers organization. Please stop asking me to waive my no-movement clause!"
Holmgren: "But ..."
Brière: "Didn't you give me that clause, Paul?"
Brière: "Didn't you mean it?"
Brière: "So ...?"
Holmgren: "It's Mr. Snider. He wants me to do something big before the deadline. And I've got a lot of interest from some of the other GMs. Please, Dan, please, please, please let me trade you!!!"
[Brière sighs and steps onto the practice ice.]
Holmgren (on phone): "I think I've brought him around, Mr. Snider. ... Thank you, sir. ... Yes, I'll call Peter Chiarelli back right away and ..."
[Brière skates head-first towards the boards]: "YEEAAAAAAAAA!!!!!"
Hopefully if he really was playing injured this season before the concussion it is fully healed and he comes out and plays some good hockey again. Having the good Briere out there would do wonders for this team going forward and trying to get into the playoffs.
